Realise there are still 6 months + a few days to go but are any other members on the new Noordam sailing to Eastern Caribbean from New York?
In the past always sailed from Florida so New York especially appeals as departure port. Love that city!

I have some friends on that sailing - was asked to join them, but decided to go to Alaska in May instead.

Didn't particularly want to sail on another Vista ship as I find them too large and with 2 cruises booked to the Caribbean this year, I wanted to go somewhere else....... I'm getting tired of the Carib - been there, done that sort of thing.

I am sure you will enjoy sailing out of NY - have done it a few times and if the weather is good, it's interesting sailing past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Have a great cruise.

Many thanks for the good wishes. Maybe you could persuade your friends to drop in here and we can arrange to meet up.

By the time April comes round after all the snow and freezing temperatures of the winter a little bit of Caribbean sunshine is most appealing! Can understand your feelings though - but not Alaska!!

New York, the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty does have great appeal have to admit even if we are spending 5 days in the city prior to the cruise and wil no doubt take in a harbour cruise and a visit to Liberty and Ellis.

We are not lovers of large ships (although Vista class is not as large as some of the momsters) - but at the time we are sailing - and having had to re-arrange a cruise to suit the booked and pre paid flight - there was not much choice available.

My friends do not frequent any of the boards, so there is no way I could talk them into joining this one.

Obviously you have never been to Alaska. You should try it sometime. I understand that sometimes May can be very warm and lovely. Actually at that time of year you see more iceflows and calving at the Glaciers. The last time I was there was in August 2003 and we saw very little of both.

I guess being a hearty Canadian. I am used to the cold weather. After the extremely hot summer we had here in Ontario, Canada, I am looking forward to winter.

Not sure why you say "obviously you have never been to Alaska". I have indeed visited and once spent 10 days there. I guess since I have lived on several continents and travelled around the world several times over I too can say "Been there done that".
¨
However I hope that
1. I never lose my joy for travelling and re-visiting areas that I have enjoyed together with visiting the many new areas which are always available.
2. I always maintain my respect for what other travellers might decide for themselves

Where I now live during the past year we had minus 25c in Winter and plus 40c in summer so I guess you could say that I too am used to extremes in the seasons.

What I was really interested in on this thread was encountering people who do visit message boards and were cruising on Noordam 5th April, 2006.
