"Sailed" the Queen Mary again yesterday. Stayed a night in a unheated city side cabin. Carpets and paint in terrible shape. Promenade Cafe said to be under renovations but looked more like a flood happened and collapsed the ceiling. Railings were rotting, flying bridge now off limits. Many burned out light bulbs. Hot water turned off all night. Outside seating in disrepair.

My thinking is new management company will run her into the ground then pull out leaving a rusting wreck. The staff onboard don't seem to care at all. However the beds were very comfy.

Doesn't sound too promising Steeplechase

I am booked for a Long Beach 'Voyage' in April, I hope she is up to scratch by then

There is talk of a big spend on the ' RMS Queen Mary ' with new wiring, pipe work, sewage system work, work on her teak decks and also some hull reinforcing work to be carried out.

It is intended to keep her open while about US $23 million is spent on her !

Lets hope it goes ahead and she does not finish up like the ' ss United States ' which I have said for many years should be scrapped !

I stayed on-board some years back now, even then she was a great nautical experience and a bad hotel!

Do they still do the ghost tour? It's silly, but you got to see some bits of the ship that are otherwise off-limits, like the indoor swimming pool.

We spent a few nights on her mid April. A lot of work is being done - and a LOT needs to be - but it seems she is getting a thorough going over. Sir Winston's has since re-opened and the Sun deck decking aft redone. Still can't go on the flying bridge etc, but I am sure they will get there. [No Malcolm the Legends and Ghosts tour is no longing running due to the structural problems around the 1st Class Swimming Pool, but there are other 'haunted' tours - a general encounter one during the day and others at night]. The Promenade Café should reopen soon I am told. The funnels are being repainted now, but the lifeboats have no tarps and are rotting. We ate in the Chelsea Chowder House which was very good and nice views of Long Beach [with the mist rolling in].

She is still a wonderful ship & well worth a few nights aboard.
