Quite different as her career as Festivale then Island Breeze
As for the ship, the interiors were wonderfully 'colonial tropics-modern' w/touches of mid-century mixed w/a very traditional look. Some of the rooms reminded me of interior images I have seen of the royal yacht Britannia. Wonderful film David!

When the couple were checking-in, it appeared that they could pick any cabin they wanted. I'm guessing that meant if you were booked in a suite, you could pick an available suite and if in an outside first class double, you could pick any available-provided you paid for that grade of cabin. The term "hotel ship" meant that there was only one class on board, and every passenger had run-of-the-ship, as in a hotel. (All the other Union-Castle ships were divided into First and Tourist Classes.) Booking a cabin wasn't as casual as that scene in the film indicates--you still booked a specific room well in advance of sailing, just picked up your key at Reception, as in a hotel.

I had a similar experience on SS African Enterprise: 18 days from New York to Cape Town with only 1 port of call (Jamestown, St. Helena) in between. The Farrell Line brochures said 17 days, but they didn't count the day of departure or day of arrival.

Counting "days" on crossings and cruises has always been a bit confusing, especially today with cruises of so many varying lengths. Marketing and advertising people like to stretch out the appearance of a trip, so a weekly cruise (or any trip) could be called "8-days." It's best to count "nights", to avoid confusion (a 7-night cruise, etc.)
