Strange things have happened this evening with the tow of the 1951 combiliner Georg Buechner former Charlesville of CMB
As you know well, she left Rostock Tuesday under tow of the tug Ajaks en route for the scrapyard in Klaipeida, Lithuania, also on the Baltic Sea.
Suddenly, at about 19hrs this evening, the Ajaks did some very strange manoevers, as seen on AIS, turned in circles, etc etc.
Now the Ajaks has changed destination, and is in full speed (10 knots) en route to Gdansk in Poland, ETA 10.00AM tomorrow morning.
With the CV/GB on tow her speed was about 3 knots...
There were, seemingly at least, no other ships nearby.
What has happened ? Are the lines cut ? HAs the CV/GB sunk ?
Dramatic events, and we know nothing now.
The sale of the ship was clouded in rostock with many questions, and this incident raises also questions, first of all, what has happened...
Nothing so exciting, as liners, it seems...

Fascinating, Johan. Please keep us posted if you hear anything else. If no other vessel came to get her, it would, indeed, seem as if she sank.

Ajaks was doing 9kts right up to the harbour entrance then slowing to 4.5kts. She pulled in to the berth just out of view of the webcam - for 10 minutes. Then she carried on and crossed to the other side of the port, in view of the webcam and no tow.

Either the tow was lost or she deposited at the quay during those 10 minutes.

I wonder if anyone whipped out their I-Phone and got some pictures? Very sad to see her go, but I agree that it's better than the scrappers. Hopefully she is deep enough as to not cause any hazards to other vessels.
