Just a quick note to fellow Cruise Talk readers that my new video about Alang has just been completed. THE SANDS OF ALANG is about my visits to the former EUGENIO C in the summer of 2005. Also included are the EXPLORER (ex GEN W.P. RICHARDSON, PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT, etc.), the Danish train ferry KONG FREDERIK IX and the Korbing-designed PRINSESSE MARGRETHE. Lots of vintage footage and some wonderful archival images are included. Here is a short trailer we made:

I just order my copy - I am very curious about the Eugenio C. footage (but then I maybe shouldn't be looking forward to that).

Dear Ernst,

I think the EUGENIO footage will make you sad if you knew the ship well but as the person who lived the experience, it is also some of the most fascinating footage I have had the opportunity to take. It was very hard to separate being a documenter and a fan of the ship while in the throes of it all.

Fortunately, it is not only about her demise but also a tribute to her builders and beautiful design. Maurizio Eliseo contributed some fantastic images of her construction and Stefano Andorlini, a huge fan of the ship, contributed some beautiful film footage of her in service. Hope you like it and thanks for ordering.

I still remember the day when I saw the first picture of her being scrapped. My father asked me not to show it to him.

Thanks so much, Ernst. I'm glad it made it to you safely and relatively quickly. I appreciate your support and I also understand how your father and others feel about seeing the images. For people like myself, sad as they are, they reveal an important part of the ship's history. But the video is also a tribute to a wonderful ship and the brilliant team of architects, designers and artists who built her. She will not be forgotten.
