Louis Cruises ship the 12, 263 grt ' Sapphire ' , which was built in 1966, and has been for sale is now shown as registered as a cargo ship on the AIS ship position maps tonight.

Her port of registry was Malta but that is now shown as St Kitts and Nevis and her name has been changed to ASPIRE !

It looks as if she has been sold for breaking .

Most of the old cruise ships recently sold by Louis Cruises have finished up at Alang.

Some 11 years ago we nearly decided to take a cruise on her, when at "Airtours, but it never happened.

Yet another one to go, a small Canberra...

which original ship will be left...other than the contemporary box ships....

Louis is selling or willing to sell just about anything they have. Both the Majesty and the Destiny have shown up on broker's lists of ships for sale. Majesty not that she is going to Thomson might be off the list for a while but make Louis the right offer any you can have just about anything they own.

Sapphire and Emerald are first up and appears they have both sold, or at least a commitment on Emerald.

A shame to see Sapphire go because I thought she was always a good looking little ship. I remember her from her Princess days and saw her for Ocean Cruise Lines.

Hi ss Traveler

I have seen several of the older Louis Cruises ship advertised for sale but not seen the Majesty or Cristal listed.

Where have you seen them advertised ?

Still listed for sale, on some ship brokers websites, is the NCL cruise ship ' Norwegian Dream .which Louis cruises was to buy but then declined after an inspection.

The group website states that they are still looking for suitable newer cruise ships to add to their fleet.

I have not seen Louis Cristal listed anywhere either. Louis Majesty has been listed but as I said I suspect with the charter to Thomson she is likely off the market for a while. But the Louis Olympia is listed as is the Island Escape (of course Thomson not Louis).

Norwegian Dream seems to be another one of those that simply can not find a buyer. A lot of people tire kicked her but they all walked away. She has issues is the rumor partial with the way she was built and partial with her maintenance plus a very high asking price.

Hi

Many thanks for the link

Re the ex Quail Cruises ships for sale on that website, Ocean Pearl is reported today as sold to a company in Taiwan and will have an update in a Far East shipyard.

Gemini is being chartered for 30 days for use as a floating hotel for the London Olympic Games so will join her larger sister, the Fred Olsen Braemar which is also chartered for the games.

I sailed in SAPPHIRE on back to back cruises with the far lovelier IVORY a couple years ago. She was an interesting ship but even then, she was pretty well-worn. RIP to SAPPHIRE but fingers crossed for THE EMERALD.

Hi

It looks as if she will be heading for Alang as Louis Cruises have sold their old cruise ships to ship breakers at Alang in the past.
