From a June article:
The boat was built in 1902 by a Wilmington, Delaware shipyard and launched as the “Celt”, a private yacht. The U.S. Navy acquired it in 1917 for war patrol and it was re-christened the “Sachem." Two years later, it was returned to its owner.
It was sold a couple times and converted to a fishing boat. The war and the Navy called again in 1942 and it was commissioned as the U.S.S. “Phenakite.”
In 1945, it returned to its original owner, Jake Martin, and once again become the “Sachem.”
It was sold to the Circle Line of New York City and employed to provide tours around Manhattan Island as the “Sightseer.” It would then be renamed the “Circle Line V.” The ship disappeared in 1984 and maritime historians assumed it was scrapped.
A few years ago, some members of Cincypaddlers.org were kayaking the Ohio River near Lawrenceburg, Ind. They crossed to the Kentucky side and paddled up a creek, only to be surprised by finding a huge steel ship aground.
I was on the fence about where to post this topic, because I've attached a video...but, then again, it is a vessel with an interesting history...

Sailed it as a kid and in college for a booze cruise
I'll be darned! What creek is the hulk up that's across from Lawrenceburg...Second Creek, Taylors Creek? I wouldn't think that there's a creek that big up that way. Maybe it's on Willoughby Creek above Belleview, but that's a little more than a mile from Lawrenceburg.

A truly interesting find and fascinating set of eight short accompanying videos on the 'Ghost Ship' Sachem.
THANK YOU for posting this!
Frank: I'm not sure what the name of the creek is...from what my brother told me, the easiest and quickest way to find it is to launch from Tanner's Creek on the Ohio side, head over to the KY side and the creek is just across from the power plant in Lawrenceburg.
In the videos the creek looks so small I'm thinking it might not even have a name.
I did find these three pics on the web. The first one is during her days as the CELT, and the next two were taken while she was named SACHEM.
