Try the World Ship Society. There are chapters in NYC, Great Britain, and Rotterdam.

Chandris renamed Victoria (ex-Dunnotar Castle) as "The Victoria" after acquiring her in the late 1970's.
It may have been done to indicate that she has new owners.
Louis Cruises have had ' The ' before the name of some of their ships.

Yes it is !
Though for some reason it doesn't seem to flow of the tongue !
Oceanic by itself has an almost understated tone to it !
But no matter what it is great to see a 45 year old ship still sailing !
I know that!! I was asking as it is just an odd change after 40 plus years of having the same name-a great maritime name!!!

No. It had to do with the move back to the Panama flag from Malta. There already was a vessel called Oceanic in the Panama registry, hence they had to add the "The" to register has as Oceanic in Panama.
Chandris had a similar problem in the 1970s with Victoria. At the time there were two or three ships with the same name and Chandris said they added "The" to distinguish their vessel from the others. If I recall correctly Chandris later did the same thing with Azur making her The Azur.
