July 3 was the second Sunday that Holland America's MS ROTTERDAM and MS RYNDAM where berthed alongside the famous Wilhelminakade in home port Rotterdam.

Well the MS RYNDAM was preparing fore a regular Scandinavia cruise. The MS ROTTERDAM was preparing fore a special voyage to commemorative that HAL closed down there Trans Atlantic service between Rotterdam and New York with a departure of TSS NIEUW AMSTERDAM on November 9 1971.

Here some pictures of both vessels berthed in Rotterdam it was not since 2002 that 2 HAL ships where berthed together in there home port.

Ben, thanks for the photos--we were probably rubbing elbows together and didn't know it. I was there that Sunday, getting photos from the same view points, only I was lucky enough to sail on ROTTERDAM that evening, to New York.

When RYNDAM sailed, there were balloons flying and hundreds of people cheering at the pier. When we sailed at 9pm, even more balloons and people to see us off, along with bands playing--it was a very special event.

Two hours later, as we passed Hoek van Holland, there was a massive fireworks display from shoreside as we entered the North Sea, with thousands of well-wishers stretched for miles along the waterway, watching us depart. It was truly a special crossing!

yes Rich, I'm also surprised every time again about how much passion for ships the locals in Rotterdam still have! (although the attendance might have been helped by the fact that the summer holidays have started over here).

Great pics. Ryndam original aft decks certainly looks better than what happened to the poor Rotterdam.

Lets hope Carnival won't vandalise mvOriana startling profile!
Arcadia was OK but Rotterdam is dreadful!
