75 years ago today, on May 27th, 1936, Cunard's brand new RMS Queen Mary set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York!

I will be spending the night onboard tonight and attending the celebrations! Should be a great weekend!

Take lots of photos, the trip that I stayed onboard for 3 days in March 2007. I lost all of the photos

Including the room I was in.

Today's date is on My ship calendar It was Queen Mary's maiden voyage...so glad she is still around for us to see her, walk her decks.

I remember my grandfather telling me he listened to news reports of the maiden voyage on the radio while he was recovering from a surgery in a L.A. hospitol. He traveled on her the following year on a business trip to the UK and again in '38 with my grandmother, dad and uncle on a vacation.

Well it was a great weekend aboard her! I stayed in a beautiful little cabin on the Main Deck and attended all of the events and lectures which were all very interesting. It was really nice to see other shipgeeks and to be able to talk to people, in person, who get the whole ship thing

! I was pleasantly surprised by how many people were there because I honestly didn't expect much.
