I had seen this in our last 2 cruises, in '94 and '02; I even took a photo of it and wrote everything down word for word. Now I've got one to hang in my house.

That's a pity. Since you have one now the photo and all the time it took you to write it down were finally wasted.

I just got it today, the gal selling this on consignment for the owner has been sick these past few weeks. It's just wonderful, glass, wood and all. I took a look at the back of it. It was in stateroom P43, so I looked at one of my brochures. That room was located forward, portside and outside. Not a bad place to be. As soon as I get over my migraine, I'm going to hang it up in my bedroom. It's awe inspiring to look at and at the same time sad too. Knowing that she isn't around, but it's great to be able to get this too.

How many of these signs were posted around the ship or was one in every cabin towards the end?

Not to rain on your parade but there were at least two of them at the World Ship Society bazaar in New York the beginning of October.

Thank you dmwnc1, it's nice to finally get one. I think the site that had these originally is down and more than likely down for good. The person on Ebay I bought this from still has 3 of them available for $60.00 now. According to what she said, they're still in good shape. SSTraveler, I'm pretty sure there was one in each room. At the end of our last cruise on the NORWAY. I had the opportunity to go around to a few rooms and take photos...there was one in each room. I'll dig up some photos, scan them and post them here. I had a good mind to take photos of the room numbers before I went into them. Man, she was really a fun ship and I miss her alot.

Irrespective of the number of these around and about, it's a wonderful new part of your collection. It's also a very handsome piece from what I can see! Enjoy it for many years!

Congratulations on your score! I'm so glad you have actual physical pieces of the France/Norway to enjoy, and I'm sure it's hanging next to that nice collage of yours as a centerpiece. Very cool!

Let me clarify. My comment was not meant in any way to denigrate Damrosi's purchase.

I am sure any one who sailed on the Norway or France would love to have one of them in their collection. I don't have one but was REALLY happy to get one of the little round metal signs from the cabin doors a year ago for my collection.

My comment was only to raise the question of how many exists and to say at least two more survived and are around if someone else wants them.

Enjoy the item. I am sure it will look great on your wall ... maybe with a lovely framed picture of the great ship next to it.
