A rather lovely classic lady which I am assuming is now a private yacht; date and place unknown.

Hi Pam, lovely indeed! Sort of small ships I wouldn't mind having myself. Have you tried asking at Shipspotting? If only there was a homeport, an IMO number, flag or a car number plate somewhere in the photo there would be a few more clues.

It reminds me of John Waynes yacht the "Wild Goose" which was a converted mine sweeper. Definitely not it but similar

I completely forgot to come back on this one. I was advised at the time by a kindly reader that this is SHEMARA 1938. A yacht with a long and very interesting history, from being an anti-submarine training yacht as HMS SHEMARA, owned by the flamboyant Dockers and subsequently Harry Hyams.

She has been long laid up in Lowestoft, where the above was taken, but has now arrived in Portsmouth for several years of renovation.

Yesterday she was in Nelson's Wet Dock at Porchester. Funnel under scaffolding and 3 workmen doing something, so progress is being made.

SHEMARA has completed her refit time in Porchester [Portsmouth Harbour]. Back in the water on 13th April 2014 and towed to Southampton on 16th. Probably for Trimline to finish off? My pictures above were taken nearly 3 1/2 years ago, she has been there a long time.

She's looking lovely, but still some plastic hanging around the funnel. I was only able to get pictures directly in to the sun today, but hope for some better ones another time. She might be in Southampton a while.

The very first picture above looks like there might be a famous ship on the left.....is it possibly the Calypso?

I don't think so Barry. The top picture was taken in Lowestoft, Calyspo would never have been there.

In the 1970 book "Great yachts" by Lord Feversham there is this picture of SHEMARA as she was. Not that much has changed - note the wheel on the stern.

Yesterday in Southampton, the plastic had gone, the mast are back with radar.. a few balls to be added I assume. People were working on deck late in to the evening.

She has an opening in her stern, a sort of flap, which you can partially see here. Not big enough and too high for toys - any idea what it could be for?
