Hi everyone,

I 'm going to see the Ocean Countess in Hull next month on May 8th , I was wondering if there is anyone in the neighbourhood then and if there is anyone who can give me some more information on where she will dock and where to go for the best view.

Jochen

Hi seabourndt, if you get a chance. I do hope you get interior photos of her. I was on her when she was the CUNARD COUNTESS and I didn't get interior photos of her.

The ship looks better with the blue funnel than with the white funnel as shown on their promotion postcards.

Thank you Willem. Footnote: I just looked at the photos, she's beautiful inside and out. I'm wondering, when she was the CUNARD COUNTESS, did Purser's desk flooring have lineolium type? Or was it carpeted? When did they put those sponsons on her hull? She didn't have that.

Those aren't really sponsons, in that they weren't just tacked on the hull like the Bahamas Celebration, for instance. She was built like this, and this feature is pretty much the same as on the Tropicale, also built in Denmark a few years later.

That original design feature is more like a modern tumblehome. They are certainly more noticeable w/that dark blue paint than when the hull was painted white.

You can't see the 'feature' in most early photos, but here is one as Cunard Countess in 1981 where you can.

And a super one on her sea trials in 1976; so it has always been there.

Pam
Very nice photos Willem, thank you.

Hello David,

Colin told that dinner on Monday was even worse than on Sunday.
We had lunch in the restaurant and allthough it looked and tasted good, it was a bit cold.
Colin's cabin was not done in proper time. We left our jacks in his cabin and after lunch we went ashore and when we left the cabin, the steward just wanted to do.
Looking at the itineraries and prices, the Ocean Countess fitted well in our program for 2011, but looking back to the visit, indeed a lot has be be improved. Ocean Countess has now been lowered on our list.
It was nice to meet you.

Willem

I guess I really didn't look when we sailed on her in '83. Thank you for the photos and for pointing that out to me. Always a very helpful group.

overall a mess to be honest! never in my 50 plus cruises have a had this! it was in the ferry dock we were berthed next to P&O think we hit her and had to cut off some metal(sadly i missed it) we saw the passengers going onboard and hope it was better than we had. thanks for reply willem yes a great shame to take 3 hrs for dinner and have the times changed 3 times and still we had to wait on the stairs. could get served by bar staff for drinks so had to go to the bar, someone asked for cherry brandy they had none and he dids not seem to care. the shops were the poorest i have seen absolutly nothing i wanted. photographer took an embarkation one never even saw it up and nothing for the formal nt!(WHY DID THEY HAVE ONE no cocktail party either) i complained to my agent at least cruise and maritime called back. i also have written a letter along with a lot of other people i guess. HOPE NCL EPIC is better in june!!
