Anyone have an idea what ship this is shown at anchor in Bermuda in the early 30's?

She certainly resembles the Stella Polaris, but I don't think that's her. the Stella had only one funnel.

I think the ship is the Savona ... I'm not sure of the spelling ... but she is still in use as a private yacht/charter vessel. I saw her in 2000 in Miami just after a Caribbean cruise aboard the Veendam.

After the cruise I went to South Beach for a couple of days and did some shipspotting in the port of Miami. I saw this two funneled magnificent yacht like ship docked behind the Voyager of the Seas and took some photos. I had no idea of her history until much later.

Regards, Kaiser

I agree with Kaiser that she is the Savarona. Her twin funnels and covered deck at stern are a dead give away. Beautiful ship. I wonder what her interiors are like and how much they have changed over the years.

Well it does look like the Savarona.

And the image is supposedly from the 1930's, when the Savarona was still new.

On Wikipedia there is some information about here. She's according to Wikipedia still owned by Turkey.
Royal Yacht.

Always found here a very beautiful vessel.

Greetings Ben.

She is indeed a stunner. Like kaiser, I saw her in Miami of all places, probably in early 2000. The then-new VOYAGER OF THE SEAS was in port and that was also the first time I saw her.

Her web site has not been updated since 2008, but it has loads of interior photos.

I think her interiors largely date to 1989, though the main staircase is a replica of the original the rest are obviously contemporary.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

After posting, I went on Google to find some info on the "Savona", realizing very quickly that I had VERY badly mispelled her name.

I couldn't find anything on the internet and it was really beginning to bug me. So my next step was to go through my many photo albums, and if necessary, empty my closet, looking for those photos so that I could verify her name.

Thank you guys for saving me that chore!

Mind you, spending the evening looking through thousands of ship photos is kinda fun ... for this ship geek at least.

Regards, Kaiser

SAVARONA spent several months in and around Miami that year. Here she is on the South side of Dodge Island, Jan. 8, 2000:

And here she is on the West side of Dodge Island, April 16, 2000:

In those days you could easily walk up to and around the ships in port, but I never went aboard.

Thanks Rich for the photos.

I think I saw her in February 2000 and she was berthed on the west side of Dodge Island IIRC.

Even worse, I hate the fact that I know you are actually wrong. They used Benny Anderssen's (from ABBA) yacht Haida G in the filming
