This view is from a 1962 A.P.L. brochure for their PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. I'm just trying to imagine passengers collecting their rolls of streamers and then rushing down to their cabins, to struggle with opening the porthole, then sticking their heads and arms out to throw the streamers!

Less stress, and why some of the new vessels also have round windows, but larger.

Lovely image though Rich, thanks for that I can't imagine why anyone would bother with waving from a porthole when they could be up above on deck.. unless it was specifically so those waving them off would be able to pick them out, knowing where the cabin was.
