I am looking to one day do a catalog that would list all of the artifacts and the current location of where they are, such as museums, private collections, etc.
And the next hypothetical question that I want to ask is this: Would it be possible to purchase all of those artifacts and have them become the decour onboard a new Cruise ship, like the QM2?
For example, all of Normandie's First Class fittings could be combine to create an Art Deco decour of the 1930s that would be mostly original.
For the next class, all of the surviving Frist Class fittings from the Ill De France fittings could create the 1920's Art Deco decour.
So the new Cruise ship could have all of the surviving fittings to create the MV Normandie.
How much would it cost just to buy all of the surviving First Class fittings from both the SS Normandie and the Ill De France?

quote:Originally posted by mike sa:Just a slight correction but Normandie was never designated as TSS as per your title, she was SS. I believe the same is true of Ile De France.
The cover of the Souvenir issue of 'The Shipbuilder & Marine-Engine Builder' featuring the Normandie and pubished in June 1935 actually referred to her as QTSS (quadruple-screw Turbo-electric Steam Ship) - but the contents never re-uses the designation and refer to SS or more normally 'the' Normandie!!!

These abbreviations are not part of the name. A ship is named but there is not necessarily an 'official' prefix.
The fact is it would be impossible to catalog every thing as it's scattered all over the place...in museums, private collections, on board cruise ships, apartment buildings, hotels, etc.
