I'd like to start a new thread with photos of the various Peace Boats. Here are some of THE TOPAZ, setting sail on a world cruise from Harumi Pier in Tokyo, taken from the Rainbow Bridge. I don't have my diary with me, but I think it might have been January 2003.
Tokyo Tower is visible, as well as the Roppongi Hills building (towards the left, with the two shorter apartment towers next to it.)

Here are some scenes from today (April 19th) in Yokohama, where MONA LISA sailed from, probably for the last time. Many KUNGSHOLM fans were there to see her off. It was the ship we were there to farewell. She sailed empty with no passengers.

But all is not lost!! The "new" Peace Boat OCEANIC arrives at Yokohama on Wednesday, and departs on her maiden voyage on Thursday at noon. Indarra will sail in her as far as Amoy, and will post a few pictures. In the meantime, this is the mockup from the Japan Grace brochure.

Lovely photos Indarra thanks. Did you see Oceanic? According to the port website she is at DKL7C [since 16 April] & Mona Lisa was at DKL1C [next port Singapore].

I wonder if Oceanic will keep her red funnel or if it will be re-painted blue, like the funnel on the Topaz, with Peace Boat added as well.

Thank you for those interesting photos. Mona Lisa looks like she could do with a new coat of paint!

What is the black ship in the third picture? The stern looks very Edwardian; like the Titanic/Olympic etc.

Graham.

FANTASTIC images! How wonderful to see KUNGSHOLM and HIKAWA together. By the way, how is HIKAWA MARU doing? Hoping maintenance and attendance are up. Impressive crowd of KUNGSHOLM fans, too.

Bob,

Oceanic still has a red funnel as of yesterday.

Oceanic is seen at right near the foot of the bridge [ Tsurumi Tsubasa Bridge ].
Oceanic is berthed at Daikoku Pier Berth # L-7.

Mona Lisa passes through the Tsurumi Channel on the way to her berth # L-1 at Daikoku Pier.
Kaze No To is seen just above foredeck.

"Kaze no To - Tower of the winds" located in the middle of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line which connects between Kawasaki and Kisarazu.

It is 90m high and 75m sizes of the two towers are rising. the facilities for air transportation from outside and exhaust air in the tunnel.

Which Peace Boat is this? Her name is Pacific Clipper and I took this Photo in Istanbul.

Here is another image of her. Sorry about the low quality, but I was quite far away.

Many thanks to Indarra and Ocean Liners for the amazing pictures of THE TOPAZ and MONA LISA. I was fortunate enough to see THE TOPAZ in person in Panama when she was docked next to us. What a beautiful ship she is...

Soundsailor, the PACIFIC CLIPPER was employed as the Peaceboat between THE TOPAZ and MONA LISA.

Great photos of all the Peace Boats. You're right, the Topaz could have done with a lick of paint when those pictures were taken. UIlove the Mona Lisa's funnel with the painting. Rather unusual but unique all the same.

Peter and others

Thankyou for your comments and contributions. NYK finished its refurbishment of HIKAWA MARU last year, and must have spent a lot of money. Nicely repainted inside and outside, and a lot of restoration work in the lounges, dining room and outside decks. Much of the ship is now carpeted, which was not the case when built! Emphasis is now on the art deco, which is probably original. Entry fee now only Y200 ($2). Will try to post some photos in the next few days.

Pacific Clipper is shown on the AIS maps as having moved from Istanbul to Burgas the Bulgarian Black Sea port

She has been there since the 9th April 2009 so it could be for some more repairs of maybe they have a ship breakers yard there !.

Pacific Clipper was originally the Song of Norway. She has major mechanical flaws which forced Peace Boat to suspend her sailings/charter and to use the Mona Lisa to complete the planned program.

Its not clear what Clipper will do with the Song of Norway because she needs lots of repairs.

Peace Boat is lucky to have the Oceanic. They say she will sail for a minimum of 3 years under charter but they did not saw who actually owns the Oceanic.

I would love to get some Oceanic pictures privately for use with my writings about this ship.

Anyone who can take pictures either higher resolution digital or print film for me in Yokohama please contact me privately.

I am also looking for old pictures of her during her Home Lines or Premier or even Pullmantur days.

Also looking for souvenir slides Home Lines sold aboard the ship if anyone has them in their collection

Contact me via private messages or at sstraveler at aol dot com.

THANKS!

Some years ago, I took a vacation with my parents to Tokyo. We happened to walk past the HIKAWA MARU and my dad asked if I wanted to go in it. I passed on it and when I returned to the States, I realized who she is. I am really glad NYK is refurbishing her.

This summer, I have an internship set up with Maersk Line. If I end up on the Pacific run, and make a stop to Yokohama, I am definitely going to visit her.

Great photos here. I am rather sorry I missed the chance to visit CLIPPER PACIFIC in New York (unfortunately I was offered the chance to visit at a time when I could not - and I am not sure if it would have wound up working out anyway since the ship was detained) but I treasure the memories of my day aboard THE TOPAZ and I am very much looking forward to OCEANIC.

Man, you need your head examined! If you have a chance to visit anything that looks remotely like a passenger ship, just take it!

Interested to know why the Pullmantur name is still on the side of the ship, in the latest pictures, as I thought she had been sold.

Perhaps she is only chartered and not sold !
