Now that will be a real treat!
I wonder whether Pullmantur will reshuffle some of the planned deployments of its other ships to continue with OCEANIC's programme from Valencia. Will PACIFIC DREAM go to Mexico after all and will OCEAN DREAM remain in the Caribbean?

Steeplechase, it's the same OCEANIC, of 1965, originally with Home Lines, then Premier's Big Red Boat, then Pullmantur.
Incidentally, I believe this would be the first time the ship would ever leave Atlantic and Mediterranean waters.

According to the captain on the 2006 OLS Group Cruise, the s.s. Oceanic is 2010 SOLAS compliant.

I TOTALLY agree with you and will definitely makethe effort for this to actually go and see her arrive. (not many left that I would do that for).
Somehow I think this summer's visit might still be Clipper Pacific; however, I certainly hope this changes.

The ss Independence was renamed 'Oceanic' prior to leaving San Francisco apparently for scrapping (she is still in limbo at this point). Her twin sister the Constitution was also renamed Oceanic for her final voyage.
Much of her newer and more colorful decoration was done during her Premier days. With regard to her being "cold", I've heard others mention this. It think it's mainly due to the Italian love of formica in the 60s. It was never much of an issue to me though. I think that the very length of her service career shows how highly regarded she was. I also think that reputation is the reason her name was never changed. This may soon change, however.

I always thought she was too metallic and lacked warmth. Her decor was not entirely different from that on Michelangelo and Raffaello, but theirs seemed warmer. Any facts or thoughts?
OCEANIC still has the original art in her stair towers, those silvery-grey plaques or reliefs, representing historical figures and world landmarks. These are the most noticeable remnants of Home Lines--most of the ship is pretty much as it was during Premier's stewardship.

Thanks for sharing, Deb. That's pretty much exactly as OCEANIC looks today--all of those interiors date from Premier days. She looked much different when she sailed with Home Lines--more elegant rooms, crystal chandeliers, velour-covered chairs, very Italian.
I am glad that "Oceanic" will sail some more time, some yearq I guess. On the other hand, I think she found her place in Spain, where she did oneweek cruises, as she always has done (now 3/4 days cruises). The "Peace Boat" seems to me a rather vague association, and now real round the world voyages - i am curious, but also sure she will do it allright, Oceanic is a happy ship with a pleasant atmosphere.
As for decoration, in public rooms : the metal and ceramic decoration in the stair towers, which are really nice.
I also think the accomodation is italian 1960s, at least the cabin I used didn't seem not to have changed much, the aircon was Italian, and the furniture seemed italian 60s formica.
