I am going out Newport Beach CA in a few weeks and want to get away for an additional night to stay on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. I would like to stay in one of the original cabins on board. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Also I have a old cruise deck plan from the 1960s. If I wanted to walk around the ship is it open so I can walk around and can you roam around w/o the hotel staff getting upset? Thanks ......

I was in Long Beach the other day and her recently painted funnels look fantastic in their original 1930s Cunard Red. The rest of the paintwork looks a bit rough in places but the funnels shine!

During the day you can visit the bridge and an exhibition in the engine room area.

There are several guided tours you can take and a self-guided tour. (I recall the tours give you access to areas that the self-guided tour does not, such as the charming indoor pool).

If you stay on the port side they will put you in a suite for the price of a room but the city sky line is nice too. As for walking around the ship late at night you can pretty much go anywhere and don't forget that they blow the horn a couple of times a day ask when as you check in and be out front it's like she is getting ready to sail! Resturants are great onboard and lets us know if you see a ghost? Also walking down the halls you will swear your swaying at sea! Have a great time worth every dollar. You can get to the shaft without a tour if you are a guest.
