As I mentioned on a earlier post, I am sailing on the QM2 in August 09. I have 2 questions to ask any you who have done the journey. First when arriving in Southampton, once you have disembarked how difficult are the transportation from the terminal(38/39)? In my case it is to the train station as I head up to Scotland. Are the taxis fairly reliable/ how often? How much are the fares, and where would one find them?
My second question involved the Brooklyn Terminal. My hotel , Marriot Marquie, is at Time Square in Manhattan. Any idea how long the journey to the terminal is form the hotel? lastly I assume the boarding there is fairly routine. Any advice on the above would be most appreciated. I have not sailed on the crossing but I have sailed on the QM2 from Brooklyn. I also live in the NYC area and I am very familiar with the city.

The Brooklyn terminal I found to be a very efficient place. The Marriott Marquie is in Manhattan about 5 miles away but it will take you at least 20 minutes or more (depending on traffic) to get there. You can easily take a cab from the terminal into Manhattan. You could do mass transit but there are no subway lines at the terminal. You would have to walk some ways off of the terminal grounds into Redhook to get a subway. And I would not recommend taking luggage on the subway. Its best to get a cab since they will be outside the terminal. Have a great cruise and enjoy NYC! You will be staying in the heart of midtown Manhattan, you can't get better then that.

NYCruiser, I am actually sailing from NY(which I've been to before) to Southampton. Sorry about the confusion. The distance/time from the Marriot to the cruise terminal was helpful though.

Taxis are readily available here at the Southampton terminal. The journey to the station will take about 5 - 10 minutes maximum and cost around £10. It really will be very easy.
