Looking to hear memories of Home Lines and their great ships. Who on this board sailed on them and remembers those wonderful ships?

Did anyone here ever sail trans-Atlantic with Home Lines and especially aboard the Oceanic? I would love to hear from you if you did.

I never had the opportunity. On the Canberra I overheard a women mention the Oceanic had nearly silent aircon and imperceptible vibration.

2 cruisetalkers, One European, another from Florida recently sailed the Oceanic in her Pullmantur employment.

As children we sailed the Rotterdam every summer, when she left NYC we switched to Home Lines. I loved the Homeric, Oceanic and even had great High School memories on the Atlantic. For a new ship, i loved Homeric. We used to see the same crew every year, loved the food. The ships were very club like with high levels pf past passengers that used to sing these home lines songs.

My first cruise was with Home Lines, aboard the OCEANIC on her famous 'triangle' cruises--New York to Bermuda, Nassau, and return. Very high level of service, white gloves, classy public rooms, great food and friendly Italian staff. This was in the days when cruising was still an elite, elegant experience. I've since sailed on OCEANIC with both Premier and Pullmantur--still love the ship very much but of course the software is completely different.

Later cruises with Home Lines aboard both ATLANTIC and HOMERIC when they were brand new. The ships were more modern but almost mass-market during the '80s, and the Home Lines service was still above average, but just not the same as it had been earlier.

I sailed the OCEANIC several times under the Premier Cruise Line flag. Really nice, I think my late husband and I sailed her 4 times. Great food and service, just 5 star all the way. Liner was kept clean and the most memorable moment for me; was when we were on the Pool Deck and they closed the Magradome at sea. That was sooooooooooooo cool hearing those doors literally smack loud inside.

I've sailed on OCEANIC a couple times as a child. I LOVED the ship as did my Grandmother. The only thing I didn't like was there was no pool on the aft decks. As a kid these things are very important! The Italian crew on Home Lines loved kids and made you feel very special.

I have visited the DORIC a few times, once while docked next to her in Bermuda on STATENDAM. I liked STATENDAM better because "we" had an indoor pool. Again, impressive to a 13 year old kid. This being said, DORIC was a very nice ship and I would have enjoyed sailing on her.

I never sailed on ATLANTIC but visited her several times in NY. The ship did nothing for me or my Grandmother so we never sailed on her. Boy do I miss the days of being able to visit the ships in NY on sailing day. I grew up fairly close to NYC so weekend jaunts to the city were frequent.

I never had the chance to visit or sail on HOMERIC as a Home Lines ship, but I did sail on the ship as HAL's WESTERDAM (after the stretch). Frankly the ship did not do a whole lot for me, but a big part of that was the passengers (yawn). I was a young adult when I sailed on the ship and frankly I was bored.

Home Lines was a wonderful cruise line. I still have all the old brochures from DORIC, OCEANIC, ATLANTIC and even HOMERIC. They were the East Coast version of Sitmar, another line I greatly enjoyed during my childhood and going into young adulthood.

I sailed on the old Homeric [former Mariposa] once, the Oceanic 4 times and the Doric 3 times. I liked all three, but never thought they came up to the high marks so many others had given them. I remember the Oceanic was a HEAVY pitcher in heavy seas as she raced back to NYC from Nassau. Of the three, I enjoyed the Doric the best. I found her cozy, inviting, and well served.

This is one of my best shots of the OCEANIC, taken during Oct. 95 cruise. We were headed to the Private Island.

I have a very simialr picture of me steering the ship with the captain's hat on! Brings back great memories. That was my first cruise back in 1987 and I remember bits and peices even though I was 6! The Oceanic was and is a classic. I always remembered her bathroom arrangement. We were in a mini suite I beleive on Priemer Deck. One room housed a toliet and sink the other room housed a toilet, sink, bathtub and bidet. At six I was impressed by the arrangement and intrigued by the bidet I never saw anything like it. I thought it was a water fountain at first until my mother instructed me otherwise - thank goodness!!!!
