QE2 is in L.A. (San Pedro) today for the final time. I cannot get down there today but hopefully we will see some pics of her from other L.A. area Cruise Talkers.

Cunard Fan-this is your last chance!! See her off from the 'Port O' Call Restaurant' patio. It is a fantastic spot to see her as she sails down the channel.

I agree! Did it once, in 2007, and sorry I never will again.

Martin Cox of Maritime Matters has posted some images of her final L.A. visit.

I remember going down to San Pedro over the years-often docked at pier 93 (where the Love Boat TV show opening was filmed). At times I was shocked and disapointed with what I saw such as when she had that awful rust-covered pebble grey hull paint or when the aft decks were ruined w/the Magradome but it did'nt matter because she was the QE2! It was always a thrill to see her slowly sail down the channel lit from bow to stern-then a small light would appear on the funnel and her wonderful deep whistle would blast. I am not sure what the light and I did'nt see it after the new funnel was installed but it was some type of signal that the whistle was about to blow!

Even after my 1st of many voyages on her (beginning in the early 1970s) I still would ask my dad to take me down and see her docked in San Pedro.

I not in California right now. I tried like crazy to get back just for the reason of seeing her there for the last time but I couldn't.. Ironicly I never really went down to the port to see ships.

I have some more chances of seeing her finally. Either in Ft Lauderdale or if I go on the tandam crossing on OCT 10 from Southampton which I am planning on doing. I am really really really really really really hoping to go. I don't know if it will happen but I am trying like crazy to go. I really want to see her, even if its from another ship...

A good friend of mine, Phil who lives in Ontario went down and took these photos of her. He posted them on The Poseidon Adventure Message Board this morning. He did a great job and the day was beautiful.

Thanks for the pics Dambrosi. Looks like she needs a little maintenance on her lower hull.

I have some great shots of her from Vision of the Seas as we arrived. We were so annoyed she wasn't behind us coming in as we had an aft balcony and were also slightly early. Oh well.

Does anyone know why she was backed out? It took everyone around by surprise. Also does anyone know where the bagpipes were coming from? We thought it was on her bow but going by the screen on my camera it was just crew on there.

I read that a large vessel was in the way and she was unable to turn around until she reached the end of the channel.

Deborah, if your friend saw someone constantly losing their balance on those rocks it was me. LOL! There weren't many people about anywhere we went to see her leave. It was lovely and sunny but so darn cold. The past few days have made me feel like I'm back home.

lasuvidaboy, we didn't see anything during the harbour tour at 4pm. A barge was towed past but otherwise it was clear. There was a container ship between us and her in the morning. When they pulled her out, she was at an angle to turn off 93, which my friend said she'd done before. So to be suddenly straightened and dragged backwards was unexpected.

I see we are about a week off from her last ever visit to Port Everglades (April 10th). I wonder if Fort Lauderdale and the port have any send-off festivities planned? Any of our CT'ers in Florida going to be there for her final departure?

Thanks Deb, for sharing the above pic. Here's a few more from Sunday. (And Patsy, you weren't the only one stumbling around on the rocks! )

Vision of the Seas preceded QE2 down the channel.

A rather unceremonious exit for a Queen, she backed down the channel assisted by two tugs.

Turning in the outer basin, with the harbor police dock in the foreground.

Farewell to a Great Lady.

A friend's son gives a final look at the historic Cunarder he saw for the first and last time. :D :D

It would have been neat if they had taken her close to the Queen Mary. Has this ever been done with the QE2? It would have been a great send off from LA.

Again great pictures!

Hey Phil, it was a pleasure. I just knew those on this message board would love the ones you posted on the TPA message board. I had to share. And I love the ones you had posted here, great shots.
BTW, that looks like the same area where we fed the pigeons last year, am I right?

Unfortunately no. QM2 of course came close during her 1st visit to L.A. (Long Beach) but because of her deep draft could not come alongside QM or dock at the Carnival pier.

That was a great day. I will always remeber it.

Thats to bad. It would have been a beautiful site. It would have been neat if they could of had the QM2 and the QE2 meet the QM at the same time, maybe even have the QV there. Would have been awsome!

Phil, those rocks should come with a health warning. How do you manage all the time?

Here's my pics. First of all as we came in on Vision of the Seas:

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat photos Patsy. I know Phil very well. He's agile enough he can get photos, even if he has to climb a few rocks to get it. .
No contest to me which ship was the prettiest in the harbor that day.

Patsy - Thanks for risking your life to give us those great photos!

I'm surprised the rocks didn't come with a health warning though, since they're in California. If you spend enough time in California you start noticing that everything seems to be required by law to come with a health warning. They require used cars to have stickers affixed to their windows telling you every potentially dangerous substance contained in cars. And unreinforced masonry buildings must have signs by the doors letting you know that they are, in fact, unreinforced masonry buildings and could therefore be dangerous in an earthquake. It's really quite hilarious. The whole state is like one of those small-appliance instruction manuals that has about 63 different warnings about how you could harm yourself using it, followed by two lines of instructions.

Great pics Patsy! Looks like Cunard is lax in the maintenance department w/that boot topping photo. I hope they don't let her go down to much as she deserves to look her best for her last voyages.
