Hi all,

We have to decide this week if we come to Southampton when the 3 Queens are there. We only want to go if we're sure we can see all of them well. Does anyone on this forum have any info or can anybody send me to the right website to find this info?

All help is much appreciated.

Aad

Aad you will definitely be able to see all 3 ships, but they will not be berthed together and a shot with all 3 in during the day will be distant [from Hythe], one ship [QM2] and 2 specs. However when QM2 backs up for a whistle blasting session on her departure there will be great shots to be had of the 3. I expect Blue Funnel will be running excursions on their boats for this.

QM2 will be at QEII Terminal in the Eastern Docks, Queen Victoria will be at the City Cruise Terminal 101, next door to Mayflower Park, while QE2 will be further up at 105 [Mayflower]. See map of berths.

Views of 101 best from Mayflower Park, and for 105. Also can see from Town Quay, where you can turn the other way and see QEII terminal. Take the Hythe Ferry from Town Quay across the water which passes QEII terminal, 101,105 are distant. From Hythe Pier/Marina you can get all 3 in shot if there is nothing berthed at the Marchwood Military Port, but it one of their ro-ros is there I am sure the view of 105 is blocked... Andrew? Patsy? John? I think you can confirm or otherwise?

Book a trip with Blue Funnel. I expect if you ring they will have a special trip for the 3 Queens and QM2 departure in the evening.

Pam

There is a 'cute' map to download on the Hythe Ferry website. This clearly shows you where the ferry passes the QEII Terminal. Top left you can see a shi.. that will be where QV is at 101 and QE2 will be off map further long the quay from there.

If you go to this page of Patsy's, the 3 ships are in the same berths [except GP is at 106 the next along]. In the 2nd picture you can only see GP & TC as dots.. if you look very hard [you may have to look at the following pics to place them]. That is the view from Hythe Marina. This is not ideal at all for all 3 together but the best you will get until QM2 backs up. It will be worth the trip for that though

The Town Quay offers a view of berth of 38/39 if you have a long lens, say 200mm. It also has a pub, a cafe and some parking. The Hythe Ferry departure is here along with Red Funnels High Speed Ferry to the IOW.

A guy often sells 30 minute boat trips from here, for £5, on days where there are several boats docked. These are not pre-bookable, you just turn up.

Thanks a lot for all responses. I have 1 more question. If I remember well, from when we left Southampton last year on Navigator of the Seas, QM2 is closest to the sea. How can they all be in a 1 shot position when she backs up for leaving? We'll book a trip on the Blue Funnel so I'm sure they will get us in the best position.

We've booked tickets for the Blue Funnel sail away tour so now all we have to book is a flight and a hotel.

Excellent... we look forward to the photos.
The best hotel view wise is the Holiday Inn [Herbert Walker Avenue].. one side will look over QV & QE2, the other across Mayflower Park/Town Quay to the QEII [but distant] Terminal.

Now Aad has been and knows the layout, just to 'tidy' up the thread for anyone else in the future, here is a photo I took from Hythe Marina the other day with all the cruise berths in one shot.

Not ideal at all stretching from the Mayflower Terminal to QEII Terminal. In the photo are Anvil Point, [Hurst Point behind but can't see her] at Marchwood, half covering the view of Aurora at the Mayflower Cruise Terminal 106, QE2 at 105, Mogami Reefer in the middle at 104, Oceana at the City Cruise Terminal 101, then there is Mayflower Park & Town Quay with finally Boudicca berthed at 38/39 the QEII Terminal.
