Greetings Ben.
It should be remembered that P&O sold the ss Oriana to the Japanese in 1986 for use as a maritime museum and conference centre and she was berthed at Bepu Bay in Japan.
She was not owned by P&O when scrapped
The Japanese owners of the ship sold her to the Chinese and it was while she was owned by the Chinese she was torn off her berth at Dalian in China, during a typhoon, and her hull was damaged.
This damage resulted in her being flooded and listing over on her port side.
It took nearly nine months to repair the damaged hull, remove the water inside the ship and get her upright again but by then there was too much water damage inside the ship and she was sold by her Chinese owners to a local ship breakers yard for scrapping and towed to their yard.
A history of ss Oriana and my collection of photos of ss Oriana at Dalian can be found on the Australian maritime website.

I am guessing thats not true though
No pictures of the cutting up of the hull of ss Oriana have ever appeared.
Pictures were obtained of all the top superstructure being removed.
As she was broken up behind closed doors in China anything could have happened to the hull and it is possible it could have been re-used.
What should we be looking at in the website for the ss France.
Thanks for the update.
