Forty-five years ago today, the S.S. France set out on her maiden voyage. Yet, today she is nearing her end. I was thinking, wouldnt she be the longest serving passenger ship(as a passanger ship) yet built?

No, she would not even come close.

Quite a few liners operated for well over 60 years; BRITANIS, for example, sailed for 67 years.

What about the Doulos and the Anastasis? Not to mention the venerable Stockholm/Volderfreundshaft/Fridjof Nansen/Italia Prima/Valtur Prima/Caribe/Athena, which I think is almost 60 years old and still cruising.

Neither Doulos nor Anastasis have served as passenger ships since the late 1970's.

There's a whole string of 50s passenger ships still sailing as passenger ships. Ausonia, The Emerald, Ocean Monarch, Princess Danae, Regal Empress, Royal Star, Serenade 1957, The Topaz..

The Topaz still carries passengers in her current roll. There's Monte just gone, although not a passenger ship initially. I wouldn't count Independence as she's been laid up too long and I doubt will see service again. There's little Kristina Brahe too.

'Doulos' was built in 1914, 93 years ago.

She's still in active service, but not a cruise ship as such. I visited her a few years ago - she felt more like a student 'squat' than a passenger ship, interesting though.

See Image Here

The SS Norway (SS France) was of course the last of the 'ships of state'/great cean Liner's in operation.

Don't forget tss Rotterdam. She was layed up fore some years but, she's here today and frome all above listed vessels no one was moore in here original state as she was delivered. Even whene she became Rembrandt. She not chansed that much. She was one of the longest serving liners by here original owners HAL before she was sold off.

Greetings Ben.

The Regal Empress continues on at 54. There is enough of her original fittings to get the ambience.
Her immigrant class digs were upgraded in 1970.
Her MEP and propulsion have been continuously updated. She is an old hotel with modern appliances.
