I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like one of the Saxonia Class sisters of Cunard Line. Of course CARINTHIA went on to become FAIRSEA and SYLVANIA the FAIRWIND.

Deb, you are so close, I have to give it to you--it's actually sister-ship FRANCONIA. (Ernie, you wer on the right track as well.) What's interesting about this photo is that it was taken on November 23, 1963, a rather somber day to be starting off on a Caribbean cruise; President Kennedy had just been assassinated the day before. I think it's interesting to see the men in suits and ties, the groups of officers on deck, the ladies very well-dressed.

Here is a view of FRANCONIA in happier times, when she had been repainted from green to white. This photo dates from April 8, 1967:

The pool and surrounds are lovely, a 'pretty' ship. A great photo to have, thanks for showing. People don't dress like that aboard anymore, would be deemed formal night

The photo is just fantastic - it looks as if it has been taken yesterday. (...and then it doesn't.)

A beautiful photo indeed Linerrich. I had a feeling I was a bit close. The funnels on the CARMANIA and FRANCONIA were almost the same I think. It was just the way the funnel looked that gave me the notion on the ocean which one it was. Thank you for the quiz and for posting the lovely photo.

Dress code, that used to mean something those days. It seems they wear just about anything when they board. AAAaaah, those were such better times though.

Great pic. The new railings on the lidos gave the ships a much more modern look. The ships would have been even better looking had the promenade deck windows been deck to ceiling like most liners of that era. The Cunard Canadian quartet were quite dated when they entered service when compared to the slightly older and more stylish Italia ships.
