Yes. That's "Her nibs", Miss Georgia Gibbs. She had many hit records in the 40's and 50's. She died in early December at age 87.

As for the ship? I think Ile de France is correct.

It of course is the Ile. I see the small steel extensions on their sides (as well as the somewhat unique wings that both she and Liberte had at that time) and that was a givaway for me. Libertes stacks were shorter when she had those cool wings and much thicker.

The thing that gave it away for me was how skiny the funnels are, and then how long they are in comparison.

Pam:

Where did you find the date? I saw Her Nibs a lot on TV in the early 1950's and in that pic she looks a little older than I imagine she would have at age 30 in 1949. Of course it was a long time ago. One also cannot really go by the retouched photos used on album covers.

From boston.com. There are many websites wit this photo all stating Aug 1949, but I only found this one link stating the actual date.
