Today the QE2 honored the city of Rotterdam with a visit! If I’m not mistaking QE2’s last visit to the city was back in 1992, the ship kept her beauty though the cities skyline changed a bit during those years.
She arrived early this morning at 07:00 and departed around 16:15. Unfortunately she did not attract as many onlookers as her younger sister QM2 (then again the media did not hype the event as with QM2) still the Wilhelmina quay was full with people during her departure.
Two tug bouts assisted her (one at the bow and one at the stern) and once she was loose from the dock side she drifted off speedily to open waters. IT was almost like a transatlantic departure from the old days, QE2’s decks were crowded with passengers all waving farewell, they even applauded massively to thank the city for it’s welcome.

I did look around to see if I spotted you. Actually I wasn’t sure if I could make it to Rotterdam, when I didn’t have much to do at work I decided to go.
I was extremely disappointed that the Spido harbor tours had nothing special planned to follow the QE2 during departure. So I watched her sail away from the dock side.
Negatives and slides won’t be developed until Monday, once they are scanned I’ll post them in this thread. Anyway, I’m looking forward to your Hoek van Holland video.

Delighted to hear that. I am taking her 16-day Christmas Cruise this year. Nancy and I last sailed on her in 1975 when she was still a two class ship.

You never believe it, but I use a small digital video camera the size of a pocket lighter. It can film up to 10 minutes (at once or with intervals) Unfortunately it does not record sound, then again sound often becomes an irritating noise anyway. The camera also shots pictures, no super quality but for registration purpose very useful. I always have it with me and when I see something that inspires me I can snap a picture (or a movie) of it. The editing I did at home on the PC.

Malcolm seems in to be in a cranky mood! Actually QE2 did have a large rusty patch/scratch at her bow, Last year in Ijmuiden she looked excellent, almost new without any scratches on the paint job. Rust forms rather quickly so the scratch at the bow could be a recent mishap.
