hi
i saw that movie few days ago - well how to say this? a very weak movie with a weak story line.
especially when the main reason for me to whatch that movie was because of the cruise ship on it - i had a greater dissapointment...
you barly see the ship! and that strage mega lounge when the captain had a speach in the lower floor while pepole eating in front of him... and if its not enough so the casino is just above that ... what kind of main lounge/dining room/casino is it?
(although there is a great influence of the decor from the QM2's Brtiania restaurant

so what is your opinion?

Elad

Personally I think the original was pretty weak too, but somehow it seemed to capture the publics imagination.

The new movie, like most new films, had good effects, but the two vital ingredients; the script and acting were weak. It highlights just how good Cameron's 'Titanic' was, in comparison.

I did not expect too much form the new Poseidon, so I actually quite enjoyed it. However, as soon as I left the cinema I'd completely forgotten it.

P.S. I loved the look of the Poseidon. It was more attractive than 99% (all?) modern ships. This is simply becuase it was designed to look good, something that real cruise lines no longer bother about.

Completely forgotten? Then how are you able to make the other comments about the movie?

The original had some great actors w/decent special effects. It is a time piece from the early 1970s and the recently refitted QM sparkled in the few scenes filmed onboard the actual ship. The sets in the 1972 film at least to me looked like a 1930s ocean liner while the new version looks like a movie set. The 2006 version was extremely expensive to produce (it may break even or actually lose money in the end) but had no backstory or charactor development. You really could care less about the actors or what happened to them while the original is a cult classic.

Brian, I often comment about things that I know nothing about or have completely forgotten - can't you tell?

Uh yea, I remeber the main resturaunt was not only a resturaunt. The top floor seems to be a casino for the higher paying passengers of the ship, I think there was even a crew member guarding the stiar leading to that floor.

There should have been a crew member outside the theatre preventing people from getting in to see it, that would have been better!! I did enjoy it, but I thought a lot of the scenes should have been subtitled with "courtesy of James Cameron's Titanic". The ship did look nice, but yes I'm not sure what purpose the ballroom/restaurant/lounge/atrium room served, except to miraculously become watertight once the ship turned over, despite Richard Dreyfuss getting there through non-watertight double doors from the outside deck.
Still, at least Kurt Russell drowned. I know it wasn't for real, but still.

I can't bring myself to go to the movie and see it, based on all the negative reviews. Maybe it's just me, but in the trailers, the special effects look fake. Maybe it will look different on a movie screen.

I am also NOT a Kurt Russell fan.

If you go expecting some mediocre entertainment, I promises you that you will not be disappointed.

Let’s just say it passed an hour and half. Thank god the director had the sense not to make it 2-3 hours like many modern movies.

There are two good reasons to see it is:

1) There are very few movies about cruise ships.

2) Emmy Rossum:

You may recall in the original movie the ship was on it's last voyage and going to the scrap yard. An old ship. There was an argument between the captain(Leslie Nielson) and the new owners rep about taking on ballast and running at full speed before the wave hit.
I guess I just pay attention to the dialog.
Shades of the Norway???Scrap ??

Hey Malcolm, do you put the photo of Emmy under your pillow? For myself, I could'nt wait for the movie to be over...it was just plain awful. And last month, I thought I read that Wolfgang Petersen won't work with Warner Bros. anymore.
