This past weekend I received my copy of Stephen Card's new book of paintings of the HAL Fleet. All I can say is WOW. I had previously purchased Cunarder, and while I thought that book was incredible, the latest is even better. Great images of beautiful ships. I must just give a huge hand to Captain Card for creating such a lovely work.

I think they are available in the US through Purple Mountain Press, and in the UK through Mainmast Books. Both are just awesome new books.

One thing that I do enjoy about Cpt. Card’s great and beautiful paintings is that they have helped my “workout” or staying in shape on board the Vista class ships, as I tend to use the stairs where these paintings are located as opposed to using the elevator or lift as it is known to some.

Why the subtitle "The Spotless Fleet"? Where did that come from?

Actually it's much earlyer around 1908, there was talk about Queen of the Spotless fleet by the media. It was the introduction of the new tss. Rotterdam in 1908, whene they ussed it fore the firts time. HAL start ussing the slogan Spotles Fleet indeed around the 1920's. The slogan "Queen of the Spotless Fleet" was ussed almost fore every flagship after the Rotterdam, Statendam, Nieuw Amsterdam and even the Rotterdam 5 was called Queen of the Spotless Fleet. Sadly the slogan was dropped in the '60's.
