I was driving by Warner Brothers Studios today in Burbank, California and saw signs (upside down of course) w/POSEIDON printed on them directing cars to various parking lots. From what I have learned, this is where the remake is currently being filmed using hundreds of extras. The film is scheduled for a 2006 release and I can hardly wait!

On another note, we'll see if it does anything to boost movie sales. I understand they are abysmal From what I hear, War of the worlds isn't expected to be a smash. It's just the same old book with a new cover. Same story just with modern affects.

Anyhow, I"ll be watching for the Poseden trailers.

Once again, Hollywood proves that it hasn't an original idea left by offering us yet another cover version.

Once again Cruisetalkers bashing anything new carries on. I think that mike is the one doing the no original thoughts thing. The new Posieden Adventure will probaly make more money then any new SSUS will and with less cost. What year was the last Posieden about the time The Big U came out of service? Maybe it time for both to be reserected? ANd I would watch Different strokes wide screen to catch another glimpse of that hot drug taking thief Dana Plato.

It would have to be another actress. Dana Plato died a few years ago.

En contraire, steeplechase. I would hardly conclude that I bash anything new (though certainly, there's sufficient material to work with), and it is I who am proposing that Hollywood has no original ideas anymore. Look at the facts. The only films worth watching tend to be book adaptations (not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that - I loved "Lord of The Rings"). The original ideas that come out are typically shooter films (or other "action" films), adolescent sexploitation gags or FX fests with no real story line ("Twister" was a great example of this). Great dramas are suddenly few and far between. I think "Gladiator" was probably the last great drama I've seen. The movie that John Travolta was in last year regarding the firehouse was also very good, although the name escapes me - I think it was "Ladder 49" (I rest my case).

Point is, why resurrect a film that was not a fantastic film to begin with? I saw the original "Poseidon." I would call it only OK. I guess film works in a way reverse of other businesses, where you want to imitate someone else's success; apparently in film, if someone has a huge success, it's like a mold that someone threw away, so it's never duplicated. It's apparently easier to "improve" a pile of rubbish than duplicate excellence.

lasuvidaboy, you beat me to the Dana Plato issue. Thanks anyway.

Well, I can only hope it's better than the remake of "Bewitched". Bewitched has always been one of my all time favorite TV shows. I was anxiously awaiting the movie and although I knew it was not simply a remake of the TV series, I had high expectations. It was one of the WORST movies I have seen in quite some time. The movie was a complete disservice to the original cast and crew of this great program. The plot, editing, script, casting, etc. were all a travesty to what was an amazing and clever TV series. This movie was a complete failure on all accounts and my partner and I left the theater very disappointed.

I can only hope Poseidon Adventure 2006 will be better. While the first Poseidon may not be Oscar material, it was none the less very entertaining and has achieved classic cult status. This means there are some fairly large shoes to fill with any remake. Let's hope Hollywood doesn't screw it up like they have done with so many other remakes.

Ernie - still reeling over Bewitched!

I agree Ernie about Bewitched. I hope that the new Poseidon movie is being developed by people who understand the original and what made it so much fun. The effects of the 1972 film were basic but worked (the main dining room set was actually lifted by a forklift for a few feet and the balance of the capsizing effect was created using very clever camera angles). The new film could benefit from all the advances in special effects that have come over the last 20 years but a good story line is very important. A good story line seems to be what is lacking in many of today's films made by commitee.

Steeple..it's not so much we are bashing anything new but rather just responding to what is happening to Hollywood. They are flunking for the most part. That's not my opinion but the news is reporting miserable box office reports.

BigUFan I agree with. I'd like to add as well not only for the most part have they not had any movies that says..Yep! I go run out and gotta see this, but their political correctness is disgusting.

I've got my VCR. I'm a happy camper!

ROFL.....

I think as soon as Will Smith and Jamie Foxx decide who is playing Arnold and who is playing Willis. Pam Anderson will play Kimberley.

Sony USA has recently introduced a 2 High Definiton DVR's that can record both standard definition and high definition programs off the air waves* (if you have an antenna) or off cable. The higher priced model can record up to 60 hours of HD content (1080i or 720p) or 400 hours of standard definition (480p/480i digital or 480i analogue) or any combination that does not exceed the hard disk's capacity. The lower priced model is identical except its hard disk only has half the capacity. A bit pricey but I intend to get one as soon as it's available in Canada...I aready have a PDF copy of the manual.

BTW, although there are antennas that are optimized for digital reception, you don't need to buy one if you already have an antenna. I have been watching HD TV since last September using the same UHF antenna that I have used for analogue transmissions for the last 35 years.

Brian

* The FCC reports that as of June 2, 2005 there were 1508 stations in the USA broadcasting digitally. More than 90% of US households have access to 5 or more of these stations.

"The Poseidon Adventure" unfortunately has ALREADY been horribly remade for television, and they changed the story too. Check it out HERE. You can even watch a trailer and read all about this bad tv remake.

What a ridiculous update and attempt at relevance! Surely the most intelligent way to capsize a ship would be to flood her by opening up her sea chests, and make her a bit more unstable by rapidly emptying her ballast? Instead terrorists have to detonate bombs. They seem to be more interested in making it seem current then they are in the fact that it just doesn't seem likely. Surely explosives powerful enough to move the ship into a 180 degree list would destroy her period. There wouldn't be any long ordeal with as many survivors as you can count on your hand then. The trailer makes it look worse. The statistics are hardly incomprehensibile, they use the cliche "S/S" title on a ship that's supposed to be absolutely state of the art, and four guys with pistols would easily be taken care of- especially in a crowd like that- a good half-dozen people could easily have dived and gave the bastard a good roughing up. Pah...

Modern action films have to have big explosions, it's the rule.

There is nothing like the orginal TPA, it came out on Dec. 12th, 1972. It did win Oscars, theme song, special effects. And even though we have these 2 new ones coming out....it's just not going to be the same thing. I have a collection of the orginal TPA memorabilia:POSEIDON 1
I'm always on a lookout for more memorabilia from the original, including the Mad Magazine version of it. I have the original, but the cover got messed up, plus more Lobby Cards from the orginal.

Actually, it seems at this point that the upcoming movie is cancelled. If that's the case, a good thing the theaters were spared a potential bomb, and it's not a bad thing that there's one less 'Poseidon Adventure' film to worry about.

Information on the Warner Bothers theatrical remake has disappeared from IMDB. The only remake listed is the Hallmark TV version which is listed as being in "post production". A few months ago, IMDB contained details of both versions .

Not so sure it has been cancelled. Just last month the new cast was being reported. I think if it were cancelled that would have made the news as well.

Article about new Cast
