Hello everybody,

apologies for opening yet another new thread on the "Norway", but I thought many might not see this posting if attached to one of the various existing threads.

Bremerhaven authorities have confirmed that the "Norway" will leave the German port this week. Two dates have been named: Friday, May 20th, 8 a.m. local time or, as an alternative, Saturday, May 21st, 9 a.m. local time. Her destination has now officially been confirmed as being Singapore (I will believe it once she has arrived there), and according to her bridge, the tow is to be approx. 72 days.

Best,

Raoul

If the tug is not Fairplay IX, she should be safe.
That tug did the Copa casino(former Ryindam/Maasdam) and an O class sub from Portsmouth.
Pam do you still have the News report about this?
At least they waited for the worst of the weather.
Thanks God, P&O Ferries has special crossings for £1 for the day from Dover and Portsmouth..anyone interested in intercepting and photographying her...
Bon Voyage Madame!

Louy, the tug towing the NORWAY will be DE DA. Pam mentioned earlier that this tug was the same one that was pulling the CONSTITUTION on that fateful day in the Pacific Ocean...

Today it was said in a German forum that tugs are ordered for Saturnday, 09.30 o'clock. But also the Friday 08.00 time is mentioned again.

For Raoul, I'm sorry...I misspelled your name in my first reply in this post. Thank you so much for doing this......it means alot to me and everyone else who loves this lady of Blue....it just breaks my heart to see this....I just hope the NORWAY gets to Singapore safely. I'm not going to be one bit happy if she sinks 'on purpose' because someone did something to make it happen.
NCL would lose me as a passenger that's for sure. I know it may not mean much to them......but it does to me.

Hopefully she will roll over on the way and have a dignified Viking's Funeral. For her to end up like Oriana-abused, horribly altered and eventually scapped in an Asian scrapyard would be far worse IMO. I would hope that her last remaining French Line fixtures will be removed and sold to interested museums and private parties as they will be completely unappreciated in her new role.

At this moment (May 18, 2005 at 22.00 hours local time) the Chinese tug DE DA (left) is still moored at Waalhaven, Rotterdam (where she arrived late May 15, early May 16, see posts in this thread), in the heart of the older Rotterdam southern harbours, near the famous Holland Amerika Lijn's Wilhelminakade (right):

One day later exactly (May 19, 22.00 hours local time): nothing changed: DE DA is still moored at Waalhaven, Rotterdam. According to a German forum the tug needs about 16 hours to sail with its 12-13 knots from Rotterdam to Bremerhaven. And Saturday will be the day, again according to Bremerhaven shipping watchers.

I'm assuming they will be hugging the coast as much as possible, but what if their is a storm, look at what happened to The Regent Sea. Will just one tug tow her, and are their not a lot of risks to tow her for 72 days especially around Africa! And the size of Norway is that not a major concern for towing her? I dont think it took that long to cross the Atlantic, however I guess it would have been more dangerous for that as their is no land in between! I'm assuming her crew will stay with her to Singapore for safety reasons, and will they be steering the Norway while she is being towed??

Well done Onno !

Stephan Giesen just reported on another board that it's now official that NORWAY will leave Bremerhaven tomorrow at 09:30. He, Raoul and other friends will certainly provide us again with excellent pictures !

Hello again everybody,

sadly I had to leave Bremerhaven to get back home this morning, so I won't be able to be there tomorrow (Saturday), which has now been confirmed as the day the "Norway" will be leaving Bremerhaven.

I am extremely saddened because of this. I would have loved to bid her farewell, but it was obviously not supposed to happen. If she had left this morning, I would have been there.

What a shame...

Best,

Raoul

For Raoul: (((((((BIG HUGS))))) I know the feeling. Wish I could be there to see her go too. It's going to be very sad not to see her in the Bremerhaven Webcam anymore.
For Onno: ((((((BIG HUGS))))) too, thank you for that wonderful photo of the FRANCE/NORWAY. just an excellent photo.

I wonder when the tow will come down through the Channel--will it be under cover of darkness, or perhaps in daylight, close enough to either England or France for shore watchers to see her? It would be marvelous to happen to be on a ferry crossing near her!

Hello everybody,

this just in from Bremerhaven: The NORWAY has been removed from tomorrow's list of planned departures, and the tug "De Da" continues to be berthed in Rotterdam, as per AISlive.

What a drama this is!

Best,

Raoul

Oh please. This is just getting ridiculous now. Here we all are, getting prepared for what could be the last we'll ever see of her in one piece (unless she DOES actually become a casino) and they do this to us so we have to go through it all again. Are they doing it so everyone like us will get so fed up and stop caring or something?

Oh well. At least we'll see her on that webcam for a bit longer and she's safe.

Who knows, maybe she is becoming a casino - which of course has the theme "French Line" so she will be rebuit to her original condition - and survives as such for a longer time than her France and Norway career together - and all that will happend in front of a high resolution, frequently updated webcam.

To be a viking's funeral she would have to burn before sinking, would she not? If that were to happen there would probably be instant cries of "Insurance fraud!"

According to a German forum DE DA has a pilot on board and started her move in Rotterdam port this afternoon. AIS.Live data are now shown: ETA Bremerhaven 22.05.2005, 08.00.
