Dose Star Cruises still own her ?

But I never thought they would think of slow speed casino cruises, Could it be done?? Is it possible for her to operate with only 2 boilers?? Wouldn't be a bad idea, actually a brilliant one to say the least!

of course it would be possible to operate her on two boilers. Actually, that's what she did frequently - unless a third boiler was needed on the longer legs of her cruises.

Colin Veitch didn't say it in exactly that way. What he said, however, is that the cause for the boiler explosion is still unknown. He added that because of that and with three identical boilers of the same vintage remaining, it would be too risky to operate the "Norway" with her current propulsion system as the remaining boilers might also blow up all of a sudden. It's not that he expects this to happen, but as nobody has a clue as to the cause of the Miami explosion, nobody knows if the remaining boilers will operate safely in the future.

Bahamas Maritime Authority Report Critical of Sun Vista Cruise Ship Management 
The Bahamas Maritime authority (BMA) issued its report on the ill fated cruise ship, the Sun Vista, which caught fire and sank in the straits of Malacca in May of 1999.  The report concluded that Sun Vista was an old ship which was in poor mechanical condition and required considerable refurbishment of the main and auxiliary machinery and safety equipment.  The BMA report further claims that the ship's management company, Sembawang Shipmanagement, formerly a unit of Sembcorp Industries (since divested to Norway's Tschudi & Eitzen), was aware of the vessel's problems, but the vessel was allowed to continue in service with the crew having to deal with machinery breakdowns on a frequent basis...

It reads like a re-hash of news that's been floating around Cruise Talk and the web for weeks. See Cruise News the past several weeks.

One regulation states "Towed units are not allowed to transit the Suez Canal, unless they are towed by a tug suitable to the size of the unit and powerful enough to maintain a speed in the Canal not less than 12 Km/h over the ground, in addition to the assisting SC. tugs, whenever find necessary by SC Officials"

Is that possible? Looking back at Rotterdam's tow to Gib, she averaged between 5 & 7kts in the open sea. If Norway could pass through the canal a 2nd tug may well be required by the authorities too, putting up the costs somewhat.

Its a old saying meaning "Beware of loose tow rope on leaking vessel".
