Hello!
Thanks for posting those pics of the MIKHAIL class ships. There was a post here that had a URL for all the Russian ship classes. WHere is that page it was on this site? I wonder why western cruise companies didnt buy some of these ships for cruising say in the Greek Isles.
Which one was rebuilt and sailed as the SILVERSTAR for a while. WHere did she go?

The BAYKAL is owned by FESCO and was shortly reemployed again in 2001. Afterwards laid up in Vladivostok and surrounding araes. I guess hse will soon be scrapped.

The SILVER STAR is the former BASHKIRIYA. She now sails as OCEAN PRINCESS for Ocean Princess Group Company Ltd from Thailand. In between she featured the names NANDINI and OLVIARA. She is operating on short casino cruises.

The former LITVA also remains in service on the West-African coast. Her name is currently GREEN COAST, owned by Green Coast Shipping Company.

NIKOLAYEVSK and KHABAROVSK remain laid up but I highly doubt that they will ever return to service again.

You can find my list of Soviet ships under "Potpurri" on the left side. Due to a lack of time, it has not been updated for a while. If anything is unclear, please don't hesitate to ask me.

Patrick

Thanks, Patrick. Seeing the photos in this thread reminded me that she's the second ship that I can remember sailing on, and the first that I have real memories of. And to this day I still cannot hear Oye Como Va without remembering her. (That dates my voyage pretty closely, I should think!)

It's a pity that I didn't know that she was sailing again in 2001 - I might have tried to book on her just for old times' sake!

Here is a pic of the former Bashkiriya, now sailing as the lovely OCEAN PRINCESS ex-Thailand.
If my plans work out, I shall be cruising aboard Ocean Princess soon.

I am truly sad to see Bashkiriya like this. Such an ugly rebuild after the beautiful original lines. The fact that the original ship still lies underneath this hulk does not give me any consolation.

Hi Ata,

I agree with you on the point of her exteriors. Her former layout looked more pleasant.
Remember, there were plans to convert more vessels of this type and of the KIRGHIZISTAN-class in a similar way.
ARMENIYA (to become ODESSA SPRING) was almost realized but then sold for scrapping. LITVA (to become ODESSA DREAM) has never been started.
UZBEKHISTAN became ODESSA SUN and TADZHIKISTAN became PORTO LEONE, both quite well realized.
BASHKIRIYA became ODESSA SONG. I have to say that the interiors of the vessels were not luxurious at all but still quite well done. Especially SILVER STAR lately was quite pleasant inside as Mano invested quite a lot of money.
Hope she'll continue to sail quite a while more.

Patrick
