Louy [sslewis] wonders if anyone knows the name this Mystery French liner, sunk by US sub
as she was serving as a German trooper.

TEIKO MARU being torpedoed.

This liner is the ex-Messageries Maritimes liner D'ARTAGNAN, built 1925, seized by the Japanese in June 1942 and torpedoed near Borneo by the American submarine USS PUFFER on February 22, 1944.
This vessel had a sister-ship named ATHOS II which was only sold for scrap in 1959.

Thanks very much Champlain. I do recall seeing those pics before sometime, but it didn't click when Louy asked re the above one. She looked quite nice interior wise too for her era.

I see that AthosII, her sister shp was very different, specially the First class restaurant!
I read in Kludas that the d'Artagnan suffered a fire in Shangai, and she was repaired by the Japanese.
Now has anybody dived on her yet?
