I was channel surfing the other day and came upon a documentary style show on India. It was on Trinity Broadcasting (a religious network) which I never really watch. What caught my eye was the segment that was showing the beaches of Alang and the huge ships being cut up there. It briefly showed how these great ships (and liners) are cut up and dragged ashore. It is a horrible place with workers being injured and killed on a daily basis. I can see how there are very few photos of some of our favorite liners being dismantled as the conditions there are so poor. What I thought was how beautiful and festive these liners were in their prime and how they ended up on this beach that looked like the surface of the moon.

I have heard some of these horror stories before. The stories are almost sickening! I also heard there big health problems there due to asbestos and aids.

I saw a document about Alang too years ago. Not sure if this is the same one. Anyway its horrible place, scene from horror movie.

They even search workers after the day so that they wont steal anything... hmm like what?

This also shows that how unfair business shipping is:

- have a cheap labour where ever you wish to get it
- dont pay taxes
- if you dare: just dump waiste to sea
- when the old ship is done all she can then you can sold it to be scrapped...without care what harm it will cause
