Here is a rendering that is on ebay for a Cunard cruise ship. I can't tell if this is an early rendering of the Cunard Countess, or of the Cunard Adventurer. I am leaning toward Countess, a lot of the other materials in this lot are from the Adventurer.

Thad, this is the first time I have seen an interior picture of Adventurer (she’s one of favourites if it comes to looks), what can I say? It’s real seventies, just love those tables and chairs. The above renditions looks like it is Countess, Adventure is smaller.

Here is a picture the builders model of Cunard Adventurer that I took.

The rendering is of 'Countess/Princess' with a different funnel than actually built. The other ship (s) are Ambassador/Adventurer with the more vertical funnel. The biggest differences between the two are that the Countess/Princess were larger improved versions of the original pair, Countess/Princess also had the new squared-off sterns, additional cabins forward on boat deck and funnels that were designed to be painted in Cunard red livery.

The Cunard Ambassador and Cunard Adventure where 2 of 3 last cruise ships built in the Netherlands. The thirt was HAL Prinsendam. The Cunard sisters are the better looking the Prinsendam was a ugly ducking.

I like there handsome profile shame that they have a white funnel whene entering service. Believing the Cunard colors would suite theme very well.

Cunard found theme to small and they built the Cunard countess and Cunard Princess. sadly the Cunard Ambassador was dameged by fire and Cunard would not invest to restore here. So sold of to Australia i belive to became a animal transport ship. And Cunard Adventure sails now as Triton (ore is she laid up) Strange that also the Prinsendam was lost by fire. Frome the last 3 cruiseship built in the Netherlands only Cunard Ambassador have survived.

At end she is a nice little ship happy that she is still around.

I believe that NCL wanted to delete all traces that would hint to her former looks as adventurer. She got a new larger mast, the typical wing funnels, some of the nice curved elements of adventurer where chopped of (you can still see the traces in Triton) and she got a more pointy bow. (the tip of the bow that is) As an NCL ship she looked great but I preferred her looks as Adventurer, she had something peculiar in a good way.

Maasdam-One of the pair (not sure which one) had Cunard red colors painted on her tall vertical funnel towards the end of her short Cunard career. I have a photo which I will try to locate.

Cunard Adventurer’s funnel was painted in traditional Cunard livery and a red stripe was painted alongside her hull. I liked her better with a white funnel and without the stripe.

I’m not sure if sister ship Ambassador ever got a traditional coloured funnel , I have seen a picture of her in during her later career as the livestock carrier Linda Clausen and she still had her original white funnel. Never understood why a cruise ship would be sold for a down hill career as a sailing “barnyard”, there are far more suitable older cargo ships for that purpose. I guess Cunard desperately wanted to get rid of these ships!

I assume that Cunard Adventurer had dark-blue and white with black on the top funnel until Mar '75(at least)

Nice pictures Thad, Ambassador seems to have had two cranes on both sides in front of the funnel which I never seen on Adventurer. I just love that curve that flaps over her lido, makes it the ships looks so fluent, for me these ships were the Ferraris under the ships, nicely styled just for looks.

I thought about it and had two ships on the top of my “70’s” ship modelling list, Adventurer and Spirit of London. It is a hard decision but since I have accurate deck plans (which is basically all I need to scratch build a model) for the Spirit of London and not the Adventurer I probably go for the Spirit as my next model project (Adventurer will be rendered too eventually)

Nice ship save for the funnel. That funnel is just so ugly. Too big, too long and too skinny.

On the SUNWARD-II and TRITON the casino and theatre were on the Boat Deck,where were they on the CUNARD AMBASSADOR/ADVENTURER? Did NCL add these when they refurbished the ship in 1977? What other work was done to the ADVENTURER in 1977? Where did she sail as the ADVENTURER,to the Caribbean,Bermuda?
