The Princesa Victoria arrived in Alang on May 25th. I guess the rumours of her becoming a hotel ship in London were just fairy tales. How horrible that such a fine looking historic ship should wind up in pieces on the muddy beach.

Dear Anthemius,
I saw this information on ssMaritime. I am so sad about it.
Wished it had worked out.

June 3: New images from Alang reveal the following about key passenger ships recently delivered for breaking:
VICTORIA I (ex DUNNOTTAR CASTLE, VICTORIA, THE VICTORIA, PRINCESA VICTORIA), although reported delivered to shipbreakers, has not been sighted by our local agent. Perhaps she is one of many vessels at anchor in the Gulf of Cambay awaiting a breaking yard as scrap prices recently plummeted. In the meantime, it seems yet another last minute attempt to save a vintage passenger ship from scrapping has failed.

Hi LizNJ,I am collecting material for a ship history of this ship. Do you happen to have made pictures of the ship back then, which you could scan for me? Or do you remember any uncommon circumstances or happenings worth being mentioned in a ship history of that ship?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Michael from Germany
I wish I did, but I don't think so. The trip was in 1963, my college graduation present. At that age, one really doesn't think about preserving memorabilia, at least I didn't. And it was so long ago
But I will look in attic boxes, just to see.
My most vivid recollection is how large the cabins were, and I had had enough experience to appreciate that.
I was doing a lady's share with an elderly woman, which certainly precluded any cabin parties.
I think that there were few my age on board. But those that were were adopted by an older couple who took us ashore on Guadaloupe for a fancy lunch and swimming at a private home.
I know I had a really good time.
There are a lot of questions I would like to ask you:
Do you remember whether the main evening entertainment took place in the Riviera Lounge (overlooking the pools) or the El Patio Lounge (forward observation Lounge)? They seem to have changed this since.
Was the deck in front of the bridge superstructure designated as Sports deck or was it still the deck behind the funnel (on top of Riviera Lounge)?
Was there a Protestant religious service ? The crew was Italian, and Protestant Religious service was a problem on the first sailings from New York.
Thanks for your answers. I know that it is 40 years ago though...

From Chandris 1976 Victoria's deck plan,There was El Patio lounge facing the Sports deck in the bow on the Lido deck(Pont Randez-Vous). Sun deck(Pont Soleil) and cabin area called Pearl deck(Pont Perle) were located one deck above Riviera Ballroom.

Could she get a reprieve at this late stage?
Michael

Cheers
Due to low scrap metal prices, Victoria, ex Princesa Victoria, The Victoria, Victoria, and Dunnottar Castle, The breakers decided not to take her to Alang, but berthed her at Jamnaga India and is currently listed as for sale.
1 July 2004: Today we received several approaches from interested parties. These are. 1 A ship owner and 2 a finance company. As you can see we not given up on this amazing ship and hope for a last minute reprieve. More when it comes to hand.
