Be very Careful!!!

I have been warned about this sight by Reuben Goossens of ssMaritime. Neither Louis Cruise Lines or the scrappers that have purchased her have had any contact with this foundation. I have also been informed that Maritimematter have had no contact with this foundation and did not give it any permission to link to the reputable Maritimematters site. Feel free to verify my warning with him. His e-mail address is "maritimeworld@optusnet.com.au". You can also see similar warnings on ssMaritime.

ssMaritime page talks about this :

quote:
There is an organisation called the “World Peace Ambassadors Foundation.” They claim to have obtained Princesa Victoria and renamed her “Ambassador of Peace.” They are clearly fund-raising, using their ship as the attraction. However, I have been told that the owners (breakers) have not sold or chartered the ship to anyone. Beware - send NO money.

Hello Draikar,

ss Maritime has hinted this week that there may new interest in the Princesa Victoria as a hotel??? They were negotiating with the scrappers that bought her.

I was wondering if you have heard anything about this?

Philip J Fiorenza,

Do you have any more info ???

I think this news is just that someone asked the scrappers about buying her but like many people don't have the money to back it up.... I seen this before with Britanis !!!!

It is amazing that ssMaritime has collected all this money and no financial report is publicly available!
Hope they manage to save a ship one day..

Hello ssLewis,

I have had e-mail correspondence with Mr Reuben Goossens, he seems pleasant and writes back to you.

I do not think he or ssMaritime actually collects any money. He runs a "Save a Classic Liner" campaign. The aim of the campaign is to advertise classic liners with future potential. If someone expresses interest in purchasing, Mr Goossens puts them in touch with applicable ship's broker.

Sadly the current cruise market in not a sentimental one. As you can imagine, ssMaritime has an uphill battle even if the liners they advertise are beautiful.

Regards,
Phil Fiorenza

Indeed not a sentimental business : sold and dispatched to the breakers, after nearly 70 years, one of the last prewar liners on colonial runs - another piece of social and technological history gone for ever.

There is time of coming and of going, but if nearly everyone has departed, some might stay...

I also heard someplace that their was a rumor floating around that when Princesa Victoria reaches Suez she is supposed to be sold to a company from ? the name escapes me, but to be turned into a Hotel and Museum ship after refurbishment. I will try and remeber where I found it and let everyone know, but I was surfing someplace and saw it!

I found the article I heard it is on ssmaritime.com under Save a liner! It says May 6 update the Princesa Victoria has departed for Chittagong however it was reported that when she reaches Suez she is to be bought and made into a 5 star Hotel in Dubai! What an interesting development, since the folks at SS Maritime seem to be pretty up to date on things I would think it is pretty genuine, I think I will email them and find out for sure!

I have seen this development on ssMaritime too! I am keeping my fingers crossed. I admit I am afraid of getting my hopes up too high. I truly love this extrordinary ship and hope this preservation plan works. I would be happy to go to London to see her again.

I would also like to say I like ssMaritime very much. The author, Reuben Goossens, has a genuine love for classic ships. I wish him good luck with his "Save a Classic Liner" campaign. I would love to see the Oceanic and the Carinthia sail on as long as time can possible permit. I would love to go to Holland to see the preserved Rotterdam V too.

She’s not yet in Holland, she’s scheduled to come home somewhere in 2005. I’m sure it will be big news when the exact date of her returning is announced.

Anyways great news if Prinsesa Victoria is also preserved for the future, if the restaurant is a success then the ship is in a comfortable position as well.

Hopefully Princessa Vistoria can be saved, but I am sure many remember what happened to Seawind Crown enroute to the breakers. If you don't, she was seen sailing completely lit up and looking magnificent on her way to a chinese shipyard for conversion into

Seawind Crown cont... She was to be converted into a hotel ship and instead ended up being scrapped. Hopefully Victoria will be preserved as she is one of the last classic ships left.

This is a paragraph from the "Save a Liner" page people are talking about.

"Should the purchase go ahead, she is to be relocated to Dubai, where an extensive rebuilding is to take place, restoring her exterior as built in 1936, the Dunnottar Castle. Her interiors will be fitted with a five star hotel and contain a museum featuring her remarkable history."

It is one thing using a ship as a floating hotel but to convert it's exterior to as it was before a total rebuilding of the ship in the late 1950's is a thing of fantasy requiring millions. I assume if anything happens the funnel and hull may be painted Union Castle colours?

Besides being very costly to change Victoria back to Dunnottar Castle (probably cheaper to build a barge with an exact replica of Dunnottar Castle) it is also crazy. Victoria and her looks is simply a result of her sea going history. Should that be erased and denied? How often restorers of paintings find different layers beneath the final top painting, should they be deleted as well and where do you stop? How many cathedrals have had in their 800 years time span gotten new editions or old features replaced by elements in newer styles like Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Does that mean all newer addition should be deleted, how nice looking they are? To the people who altered Dunnottar Castle into Victoria it did not matter, but apparently in today’s society it is a taboo to alter, upgrade or add to old objects and to keep everything genuine (if there even is something like that) Preserving history is a good thing but only if you keep the here and now close in mind.

For me Victoria is even better looking to preserve then Dunnottar Castle (and less costly to preserve her as Victoria), but that is my taste.

It is a UK company that wants to preserve her. When sailing for the UK, she sailed as Dunnotter Castle. If they want to buy & preserve her as Dunnotter Castle, that would be their right. They will contain a tribute to her entire career inside. As long as she is preserved (which is not assured quite yet).

Prserving Princesa Victoria is more than sentimental.
She is a perfect example of convertion.
From a standard robust classic liner, she was updated in Holland for another classic style.
She is two ships in one, a bargain for anyone in the know...
Hopefully she will escape...

Hello All,

Has anyone heard anything new regarding Princesa Victoria? All I have heard is Maritime Matters say she is now headed to India instead of Bangladesh. This is certainly not encouraging!
