I did get a chance to explore the depths of QM2's lower decks. I visited the Pig & Whistle on One Deck. I also saw a number of other lounges, bars, and a gymnasium. I visited the print shop and the photo lab. Made it to the deck with all the ropes all the way forward. Saw the paint storage area in the bow, and a room where rolls and rolls of carpet were stored. Crew had a number of clubs that met in the various crew areas, including a Bible Study Fellowship. I started a Bible Study Fellowship on QE2 when I was there in 1992, because there was no organized Bible study or Christian fellowship group for the crew. Perhaps this fellowship has been ongoing and made it to the QM2?

Below deck on QM2 looks a lot like other cruise ships. I guess most of the crew and staff dine in the crew, staff or officer's mess.

I could not find the anchor room, and I didn't venture into the engine room area, because it had a keypad lock...I guess they were anticipating that I would be touring the ship at some point. I wanted to see the gas turbine room too, but it was also locked with a key pad. I did however make it to the bridge. It was fun to see the deck-by-deck schematic of the ship, showing all the crew areas and engine compartments. By the way, I wouldn't have ventured into the engine room areas anyways unless I asked permission from an engineer. I explored the ship till 2:30am...finally I had to get at least 3 hours of sleep, because we had to be out of our staterooms at 7am.

You should have tried to find the Security Officers' cabins -- and woken them up! Bad enough having passengers wandering around below, let alone ones who know what they're looking for.

Barry,

Have you ever attended the Synagogue on the QE2?

They do have an onboard rabbi.

One QE2 event is that the priest and rabbi onboard have a joint discussion on the different religions coming together. Have you attended that?

Desirod,

They do bring on a Rabbi and a priest on many of the crossings, I would have enjoyed meeting them and attending one of their meetings, but while I was working on QE2 I never saw them for some reason. I did visit the synogogue on QE2 though. It wasn't used much.

On the QE2 there is a rabbi, Catholic priest and a Church of England minister on board during the World Cruise.

Re the QM2 - it is possible to walk behind the Bridge and if the curtains are not drawn apparently you can view the bridge. We did not do this, however, a friend on board did.

I happen to be an ordained minister. I have heard that some lines will bring clergy onboard if they agree to perform services for the passengers and crew- is this true?

Celebrity use to bring on a catholic priest on each cruise. They would get their own cabin, and perform mass nearly every day in the morning. They usually don't bring on a Protestant minister, because there wasn't as much a demand...the catholic priest would often cover both the mass & then do a protestant service.

There has been a Catholic priest on almost every HAL and Cunard cruise/crossing we have been on. There have also been other ministers on some of the trips.

Most of the cruise lines work with a minister/priest that is in charge of coordinating the staffing for the various cruises. If you are interested, I recommend you contact the cruise line directly and ask for the contact information.
