I was reading on a cruise ships for sale site where it says the Big Red Boat 2 has been SOLD for CRUISE operations commencing 2004! So why are their reports on Maritime Matters that a crew is onbaord her and ready to take her to Alang?? Their maybe a crew onboard, but is she really going to the Breakers?? She was totally refurbished and had much work done to her since the demise of Premier and even before, and she is in immaculate condition with very little needed to have her trading again! So would like to hear from anyone with anymore Info about Big Red Boat 2??

If I am thinking of the right BRB, then my parents and grandparents sailed on her when she was S.A. Vaal.

They have fond memories.

Wrong BRB, Chris.
gpcruisedude meant the former EDINBURGH CASTLE, EUGENIO COSTA. I heard from a former engineer aboard the ship that after the demise of Premier the engine room crew stayed aboard and had now time to fix things. And they came quite far. He stated that with 1.5 million $ in hand you could make her a reliable cruise ship.
And passenger accommodation has always been in pristine condition.

Chris, the BRB you are thinking of was the BRB III. She sailed for Carnival as the FESTIVALE and earlier this year went to Alang for scrapping.

I have to wonder if that Jack Hinshaw of the infamous eBay CruiseShip Condos listing in November might have been the party who had signed a letter to the owners indicating he was purchasing the ship from them and then tried to use that letter to sucker poor souls into believing that he already owned the ship or at least had some control over it?

Obviously Mr. Hinshaw didn't sell any condos over eBay and had nothing to take to the owners of BRBII to conclude his purchase of the ship. In the meantime, those same owners are starting to see the light and quietly letting the industry know the ship is still very much for sale after all. Unfortunately, the ownly buyers for a steamship these days are the scrap pimps!

I am just waiting now to see if this supposed salvation of ALBATROS is real, but even if it is, the bloodletting has been just too great lately (APOLLON) to consider her being saved as any real victory.

Can anyone Confirm the current status of Big Red Boat 2? Maritime Matters has reported previously that she was being prepared for delivery to Alang Breakers and Indian crew members we're already aboard! But obviously this is not totally confirmed either!

I do believe she has great potential, even as a hotel ship too...more than some others!

The first link you provided is erroneous. It reports that BRB II is at Alang being broken up but they have got her confused with BRB III.

The second link states that she has been sold for scrap. This is the general consensus at the moment but I have heard reports that her new owners are apparently in the process of re-selling her to buyers who would use her for further trading, further details are not available at the moment.

As for her having been purchased by "the same folks [as BRB I/OCEANIC] only she is to be used for scrap", I am certain that if she has been sold to Pullmantur she has not been sold for scrap, and vice versa. Pullmantur is in the business of operating cruise ships, not scrapping them.

I totally agree with cruiseny, if Pullmantur did indeed buy the Big Red Boat 2, she will definentley not be going for scrap! I do believe she will be and ideal candidate for Pullmantur Cruises as the Oceanic is also a steamship and they already have crews that can operate her! Plus I dont think Pullmantur is really too concerned of the fact that she is a steamship, as she also has a large passenger capacity, which could offset the cost of that! And she is like brand new inside, so why would Pullmantur Not want her! They are doing quite well in their market and are proving that by buying 1st the Oceanic and then the former Pacific Princess and they had the Blue Dream and Blue Star on Charter(two ex Renaissance ships) of which they will loose the charter of Blue Star later this year and Blue Dream has already I believe gone or soon will be gone to Renaissance!

Maybe someone can confirm more on Big Red Boat 2, Pullmantur or even SoBe Tim has an input?? Any ideas!

I was in Freeport in Dec on the Island Princess. We were dock in front of the Big Red Boat. Talk with a crew member, who said they were getting the ship ready to sail to India. They said the voyage would take about 35 days.

It is just too clear now that any passenger vessel with steam propulsion not currently working is doomed for future trading (including NORWAY). Those few survivors that are still sailing, ie. OCEANIC, UNIVERSE EXPLORER, TOPAZ, MAXIM GORKIY, PACIFIC SUN, EMERALD and MONTEREY (if she is still in fact going to be used by MSC) are on very borrowed time. If you were to ask me, OCEANIC will be the last to go.

Pray that REMBRANT will in fact become a museum otherwise grieve for all those that are already lost to the MBA's and CPA's which run the cruiselines of the 21st Century who only care about the bottom line and NOTHING ELSE!

Marlowe, I think you meant the PACIFIC SKY not PACIFIC SUN...

I guess if the BRB II goes off to the breakers, there is only one ex Premier ships left from their latest fleet...

Does this mean she is going to kokomo ships, the same company that has bought China Sea Discovery for housing construction workers for the re building of Iraq?? This would be a good purpose for her, and maybe later someone can buy her for use as a Floating Hotel??

Glad to see BRB2 has a future even if it is stationary!
