The French liner L'Atlantique had a shopping mall. There is little known stuff about the ship, because it burned in 1933. Could you give me facts about the mall, pictures, and what stores it had in the mall?

I would encourage you to by Wm. Miller's Picture History of the French Line, which has some pics of the L'Atlantique's interiors, including the shopping mall. I don't know the exact shops she had on board, but there was enough room for them to put a car on display...

It's certainly a ship I would like to know more about. Her, the Georges Philippar, the Lafayette, and the beautiful Paris, all gone by fire. I had always heard the French merchant marine had some treacherous seamen's unions, so it makes me wonder....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have that book. How big was the mall. What area of the ship did it start at.

The shopping mall on L'Atlantique certainly would not be out of place on any of the newer megaships. Was this space a vision of the future or are magaships a vison of the past? Seems that these new megaships may have a bit more in common with the big liners of the past than most people think.

Iv'e read that her interiors were considered by many as second only to the Normandie in regards to the beauty of her Art Deco design.

The exterior was a different story!

L'Atlantique was the only one.

Dude, why would you be happy a ship burned up? Now I think some ships are ugly, but I don't want them burned...

I think the mall was quite stunning, and I don't think there was anything like it, save for the one on the RMS Queen Mary.

Agreed! What I find especially interesting is that CGT professes to be a lover of French ships (see his handle!) and of Art Deco, and L'ATLANTIQUE was a French Art Deco ship!

I know, cruiseny. I find ships like L'Atlantique totally fascinating. She was a bit of a hybrid and brought North Atlantic standards of luxury to the South American route. She has often been referred to as the "first cousin" to the Ile de France and the Normandie.

Hello,

CGT, you evidentley have a few problems you need to deal with. Onfortunately this is not the place. I, for one have grown very tired of your attitude. This is not a place to antagonize, belittle, or try to start arguments with other people.

You are always saying that people shouldn't care what you think. Well, sir, we don't. The problem is that you think this is the place to continue your childish statements and attitude. It is not.

Sir, the other day you purposely insulted the Greek nationality and then boasted about it. Even though other posters stated that they were highly insulted by you statement, you never apologized to anyone. I really don't believe that you really dislike Greeks nor do I believe that you are intelligent enough to understand how your words might have hurt others. I don't think you are smart enought to figure that out. Please go work on yourself and keep your smart @#$ comments and attitude off this board.

You have crossed the line, sir.
And as for you always asking why people should care what you say, well CGT, I not only don't care what you say, I am not even interrested in anything you could possibly post about ships and cruising. Why? Because of your record. Why should I believe or be interrested in anything you would say? You lie, you antagonize, and you bull#$%@ about everything.

How sad it must be to be you.

Please go find another outlet for your problems and STOP insulting me and everyone else here. We are board of you.

SO, for the record...
1- I don't care what you say
2- I am not interrested in what you have to say, whether it be about ships or not.
and3- quit wasting our time.

PS. Please don't reply. I won't read it anyway. I am a ship lover and will be talking to the adults about that subject.

PPS. Please let us know if you ever take a cruise. I would love to forward you posts about Greek sailors to the crew of your ship. I may not be interrested in it, but I'm sure the crew would.

What about the people on her who had their cruise ruined, the RCI shareholders who would have lost a lot of money, potential injured or killed ? (Oh, yes, they're just the "crass mass market" out to ruin it for the enlightened ones like you, they deserve it ...)

If you want people to ignore what you think, why do you bother telling everyone about it?

I, for one have grown very tired of your attitude.

Who cares what you think of my attitude. I have right to think whatever I want. I say "Thank God the L'Atlantique burned" and some people take it personally.

This is not a place to antagonize, belittle, or try to start arguments with other people.

I'm not trying to start arguments with anyone. People just don't like my feelings about certain things.

You are always saying that people shouldn't care what you think. Well, sir, we don't.

Yeah, that's why you took the time to write this.

The problem is that you think this is the place to continue your childish statements and attitude. It is not.

See statement number one.

Sir, the other day you purposely insulted the Greek nationality and then boasted about it. Even though other posters stated that they were highly insulted by you statement, you never apologized to anyone.

I insulted no one. I posted a thread about a Greek ship that sank, and some paranoid poster started jumping up and down saying I was insulting Greeks. Go back and point out what I said about Greeks in that post that was an insult. I have nothing to apologize for in that thread. What should I apologize for?

Please go work on yourself and keep your smart @#$ comments and attitude off this board.

I'm sure YOU have better things to do.

You have crossed the line, sir.

What line?

And as for you always asking why people should care what you say, well CGT, I not only don't care what you say, I am not even interrested in anything you could possibly post about ships and cruising.

Good, Great, Excellent.

Why? Because of your record. Why should I believe or be interrested in anything you would say? You lie, you antagonize, and you bull#$%@ about everything.

I lie? About what?

How sad it must be to be you.

How sad you seem to be bothered by me so much.

Please go find another outlet for your problems and STOP insulting me and everyone else here. We are board of you.

I think you have a problem here...

SO, for the record...
1- I don't care what you say
2- I am not interrested in what you have to say, whether it be about ships or not.
and3- quit wasting our time.

You waste your own time.

PS. Please don't reply. I won't read it anyway.

Yeah you will.

I am a ship lover and will be talking to the adults about that subject.

Um, okay.

PPS. Please let us know if you ever take a cruise. I would love to forward you posts about Greek sailors to the crew of your ship. I may not be interrested in it, but I'm sure the crew would.

Once again, back up your comments. If you can. Quote what I said about Greek sailors that was so insulting.

What about the people on her who had their cruise ruined, the RCI shareholders who would have lost a lot of money, potential injured or killed?

Jesus Christ, you take everything so literally. Did I say I wanted it to burn with passengers on board. A fire in dry dock would do just nicely.

Oh, yes, they're just the "crass mass market"

Well, that they are.

out to ruin it for the enlightened ones like you

No, that would be the cruise line executives.

they deserve it

If you say so.

If you want people to ignore what you think, why do you bother telling everyone about it?

I want people to stop getting so bent out of shape everytime I express an opinion they don't like. I say something about this line, or that ship, and some people go wild. It's stupid. What? I can't hate a ship or dislike a line someone else likes? Or wait, I know, I can, but I'm not allowed to express it? Eroller says negative things about Princess and i will debate him on certain points or agree with certain points, but I don't get personally insulted by it (which is something Michael 534 is real good at doing).

No, and no. But people would appreciate it if you did so a little more, er, tactfully!

But he wouldn't go around saying that he wishes the GRAND PRINCESS burns and sinks!

You can dislike whatever you want (or say whatever you want for that matter) but if you make intentionally inflammatory remarks like that, people are going to get, well, inflamed!

Well if he did, I wouldn't care.

It's not meant to be intentionally "inflammatory", rather just a true and accurate, vivid expression of how I feel about the ship.

people are going to get, well, inflamed!

Well, they shouldn't.

He should take up philosophy and study the work of Descartes, he has some interesting theories about “Robot” people and proofing that other people really (or not) existed.

He sounds a lot like a parrot to me “what do you care” must be his middle name! I for one do not care a thing he says. I only get tired of him pure out of selfishness (not for him) because Cruise Talk is being slowed down by that anomaly. (see this topic for instance completely dominated and ruined and the poster never got clear answers, how constructive is that?)

As he once stated there are many other forums that better suits his deconstructive behavior so per your own suggestion go there.

Onno, get off your Matrix crap. That's YOUR same reply everytime. Besides, I told you I never saw that movie: Can't stand Keanu Reeves....

See this topic for instance completely dominated and ruined and the poster never got clear answers

Ummm hmmm, who's fault it that? Mine? I don't think so. Why don't you try blaming the people who got so bent out of shape the fact that I said "Thank God it Burned". JOE asked for a picture, and I gave it to him, quickly too I might add. Onno, I see your post has really helped JOE, NOT! Did Michael534's? Ummm No. Did Draikar? No. Cruiseny? No again. Only Rex and I, and Miami Cruiser really posted anything helpful to JOE here, Take a look. Onno, what did you contribute? Michael534 what did he contribute? Draikar, what did he contribute? Cruiseny what did he contribute?

You seem to have issues

Uhhh no, I think the issues are with people who can't stand to let something I say that they don't like go by without jumping up and down and screaming about it, and take a negative comment about a ship so personally.

Hey I'm not a fan of all the really, really huge ships out there myself. But, becareful what you wish for.
The terrorists could strike these big ships next. That's a lot of lives to be lost.
Just an added note of caution here for all.
I read on the CNN crawl, that Al Queda is planning a bigger attack than what occured on 9/11. Let's hope it never happens on land and/ or at sea. Okay.
