I'm probably a late-commer to this, but thought I'd post it in case onyone else hadn't seen it either.

Marine transportation Consultants has both listed for sale:

As much as I want her with a good home, $6 million seems way too much for Princesa Victoria.

Britanis, I also saw that at Marine transportation Consultants' website too. I thought they haven't updated the info since ROC and DFDS? to offer cruises in the Meds. Also, ROC is spending I think 2 million dollars on Stella Solaris. I guess everything can change......

Isn't Stella Solaris that former HAL ship, later a Polish cruise ship ???

I know that ship was just scrapped in 1999 so im guessing its another ship but the one im thinking of never had its name put on any other ship so are we thinking of the same Stella Solaris ?

Draikar, the ship you are talking about is the Stefan Batory, ex Maasdam of HAL.

The Stella Solaris is the ex Cambodge of Messageries Maritimes.

Draiker - you are thinking of the Stephan Batory, a Polish ship, that was the former Maasdam IV. Many, many years ago my aunt sailed on her to Poland.

As to the Stella Solaris - my sister-in-law sailed on her about 5 years ago, so they definitely can't be the same ship.

I had heard the same thing about Stella Solaris' refurbishment and redeployment. Thats why I thought the "for sale" listing odd. These pages usually aren't updated regularly, so the information could be outdated. I think its weird that she was for sale at all. Wouldn't be suprised if the listing for Princesa Victoria was legitimate though.

I think you'll find that ALL ROC ships are always for sale at the right price. In fact you could probably say that of all Greek ships - they're the world's greatest traders. Try and find out who actually, bottom line, really owns one of their ships - good luck!!

gohaze,

that's 100% right, for example the World Renaissance of ROC has been for sale for many years but she has been in traffic all the time.

Re the other thread somewhere asking about Paul Gauguin, ISTR she's also been 'for sale' for a number of years? Just in case someone really wants her at a good price I imagine.

I wonder why Apollon is not listed for sale then. She hasn't sailed for a couple of years - right?

As I've mentioned in the "Radisson-topic" already, most of the broker's sites are not up-to-date or some ships are just listed in case that someone who is really interested and offers a price which is so interesting that it would be better to sell the ship than to keep it.
Royal Olympic Cruises has recnetly agreed a joint-venture with DFDS Seaways to operate the STELLA SOLARIS in the Baltic Sea.
PRINCESA VICTORIA is always up for sale but Louis Lines still operate the ship when it's not just laid-up in Limassol. Also SERENADE, CALYPSO and AUSONIA were up for sale but as I said, it doesn't really mean they want to sell them !

Well, I guess everyone's got their price. I don't think anybody would refuse to sell some asset for an unbeatable sum- no matter how crucial it is to business operation. At least Stella Solaris' $12 million price tag keep her well out of reach of scrappers- ditto for Princesa Victoria's figure. BTW, any news on her? She hasn't been listed on Louis schedules for some time- I'm starting to worry as she's #3 on my life's "To Do" list.

Apollon had quite a lot of machinery problems so I guess it depends if a new charter is worth fixing her up. At today's rates I somewhat doubt it.
Stella Solaris too had machinery trouble but the deal with DFDS must have made it worthwhile fixing.
They're both old steamships and whilest the Greeks are the greatest at keeping those sort going, the day finally comes when even they finally give up.

I agree with you that the Greeks have a knack of keeping these oldtimers going. I was on the Stella for a week in Sept/01 and overall was pleasantly surprised with the good shape she was in. Her steam unit and 29 ft draft gave us a real smooth trip round the Greek Islands and Istanbul. Her accomodations were roomy if a little outdated and the plumbing worked well.
Food, service, lectures and entertainment were more than acceptable. Most passengers seemed happy with the overall experience.
I know she was laid up for most of 2002,but it appears she's going to be doing Baltic and Norwegian Fjiord trips out of Britain in the summer of 2003 after a $2 million refurb.
I wish the venture well, hoping they can keep the old lady going for a little while longer.

The Stella Solaris is offered in 2003 for Cruises out of Southhampton, i think.

And she starts for an round-Western-Europe Cruise from Ijmuiden, Netherlands, for 14 Nights to go back to the Med.

The Prices are acceptable. Look at www.cruisetravel.nl
Here you can book a Cruise with the Ship.
