I have not met him personally but one of his partners hails from my area and I have met him on at least one occasion. Very interesting people.
Ballard has done lots of very interesting work on numerous lost ocean liners, countless other ships, and also the extremely important discovery of underwater hydrothermal vents that have proved wrong some traditional assumtions of science.

I enjoy every change I get to see a new documentary on NGC of Dr Ballard’s ocean exploration. He can tell his stories with such devotion and fascination but still with respect for history. I recently heard his latest discovery was the sunken WW II submarine where Kennedy had the command over during the war. You ask Ballard and he will find it.

In fact it was a motor torpedo boat, PT 109, sliced in half by a Japanese destroyer near the Solomon Islands.

By far the deepest wreckage explored by Dr. Bob Ballard was that of the US carrier YORKTOWN, which lies at a bigger depth in the Pacific Ocean (5,078 meters) than BISMARCK (4,763 m) and TITANIC (3,795 m).
