I see it's a pretty informative board, so let me share the info that I have already got...

We are flying around the 27th June 2003 and spending 2 weeks in England before we take the ship back on the 16th July 2003, the rates include that airfare from Las Vegas.

So far he has quoted me C5/C4 catergory (we might go up one or two more, it depends if it really is a better deal)
220 sq ft cabin..much longer than wide..with two single beds and either 2 bunk beds or two twins a pull sofa single and 1 single bunk. Open seating..
for 4 adults including air fare from Las Vegas...$7,064.00...is that a good deal could we do better cabin wise on another cruise?

Thanks :-)

I will start the ball rolling, then people can disagree with me! I've not cruised the QE2, but I've toured her a read a lot about her.

The QE2 is unique and many people cruise on her for historic reasons, after all she's a Queen, and for her high quality food and service (Caronia, upwards). Alternatively, some people regard her as overrated and expensive.

It's probably fair to say that you can get better cabins on newer ships for less money! (In fact you would probably get a better cabin on the Queen Mary 2 in 2004! ) However, many would say that that is not the point! She is the only ship to cruise the transatlantic route regularly. You are unlikely to find any other ships to take you home in July, anyway!

She is an Ocean Liner, with a deep draught and rides the waves superbly. The sea can be unpredictable, but conditions in July are likely to be good - although it normally blows a gale on deck!

Bring your umbrella, waterproofs, sweaters, sun glasses and sun cream to London. Our climate is very unpredictable! It been raining here on annd off all month. If you need advice about the sights of London, please ask.

Please see our 'Readers Reviews' menu left, which include real passengers opinions of the QE2 and other ships. These tell it how it is!

There is also a Ship Review:Click Here for QE2

Well...first of all is it C5 or C4? There are only a handful which will accomodate 4 people... and the sizes do vary.

Considering the price you have been quoted is lower than current 50% off promotional rates for this July, I'd say you got a phenomenal deal.

Thanks to all who have responded so far..it is very very helpful!

I believe the price quoted for the 4 of us, was for C5, but he kept intertwining with C4...I think probably because I was asking him what the difference is between the 5 "C" classes..he just said basically it's a trade off, the bigger the cabin the more likely you are to be forward or aft....midship cabins tend to be smaller but more stable when the ship is rolling. So it depends whether you prefer more space or prefer not to get sea sick. I have only been on a short cruise before and it was pretty still, so could be in for a rude awakening.

Yeah the price he quoted was 25% off brochure prices for early booking (Travel date: July 2003)
and then he called back to say he could offer us another 20% because he got us a group rate, so I was thrilled. We budgeted for $9,000, and he quoted us $7,064.00...so am not sure how much upgrade the difference of $2,000 will get us as I have read that even in the same class of cabin, there are many variables in features, amenities and even cabin size.
Our travel agent is actually taking the cruise this September and promised me he would take a good look around at all the different cabins, and give us an update.

Wow 4 people in one cabin? QE2 cabins are small compared to other ships, but it truly is a wonderful ship. I just returned from our 7/2 crossing and we had a variety of accomodation (10 of us). Here's my take on cabins and how to decipher them. If you're deciding between M1 and C4/C5, M1 might be a little smaller but has more usable space, the C4/C5 can be long and narrow and poorly configured, thus even having more space you really don't. C4/C5 are all generally in poor locations of the ship as well. The advantage to C class is Caronia dining (1 seating vs. M class 2 seating), if that matters to you, go for C class. In C class, the best is really a C1 for space and location. P class it really makes no difference between 1, 2 and 3 for size and location. I was booked in Q2, again not that large even for a penthouse suite but was very nice...certainly no complaints! Q class, the QS are larger but most Q2 have a balcony if that matters, to me it did. Yes it was usable in July, only turned a wee cool as we got close to England but the weather had soured too. Yes, the weather is unpredictable. We did have a pretty smooth crossing though. Queens Grill dining was top notch, it is true they will cater to most requests whether its on the menu or not, I put that to the test.
For July, you probably won't find other ships that cross transatlantic though....other ships do do it, but usually in the spring and fall when they reposition between Europe and the Caribbean, etc. Hope this helps.

Hi iamyuneek

About the QE2 – I'm of the opinion that it takes a very experienced agent to advise you on that ships’ cabins – and also, I suspect, an Agency that does a great deal of business with Cunard.

We, a couple, traveled on her about 18 months ago in Cat. C3. Deck 4 cabin - #4139 – it was long, narrow, very poorly configured and inadequately furnished - we feel as do others that QE2 is over-rated and expensive.

As to whether Caronia ‘Open Seating’ (not to be confused with 'Freestyle') dining is an advantage depends much on personal preference – we found it disruptive to have wait staff hovering and people coming and going throughout the meal. At no time during the entire trip did we all 8 sit down together. There is little chance to become comfortably acquainted with fellow diners in that situation – next time, if there is one, we will request a table for 2. We prefer 2 separate seatings and have been very lucky with our dinner companions on numerous cruises.

Midship cabins are more stable on any ship, as are those on lower decks. Mother Nature rules the waves - it could be like a Mill Pond!

Most cabins accommodating 4 passengers would, I believe, have two lower beds and 2 upper, fold-down beds/bunks or a pull-out sofabed . It is also accurate to say that even in the same class/category, there are many variables in features, amenities and even square footage.

Are you permitted to put a deposit on your ‘best deal so far’ and then, when your Agent returns with first hand information, make your final decision? That’s what I’d do!

Happy cruisin’

Blasphemy! It's impossible for the QE2 to be overrated, as there is nothing to compare her to. She is truly the last of her kind, and in my opinion one cannot put a value on experiencing the last true liner. The Queen Mary 2 may be big, may be glitzy but she has the look of a tarted up cruise-ship. No grace, no elegance.

I believe you should check the meaning of 'blasphemy'!

We've had similar discussions in the past - I expressed my opinion - nothing more - and, as for 'crossings' I've done more than a few!

Let's just agree to disagree.

I took your advice and emailed our agent to keep a look out for different/better options for us while he's on the ship in September.

At this point we have booked *two* adjoining cabins totalling approx 460 sq ft. We will be on 3 deck; one cabin is C4 the other is C5 and are very aft.
Price $9,0000 including airfare for all 4 of us from Las Vegas NV.

Sylvia
