Looking at the pictures of the Regina Maris on here reminded me of a short lived cruise venture by Mercator Enterprises in the mid eighties with a ship of the above name. For reason I think it also had the name Regina Maris at one time...anyone else recall this ship? Able to provide some history on it?

Have always been kinda curious about this ship.

Perhaps it was Lubeck Line REGINA MARIS, now named ALEXANDER and owned by the Latsis family?

I don't recall the exact name of the company but I think she was involved in a scandal in Canadian waters when the cruise company was accused of gambling onboard in Canadian waters. It could have been her.

I think, DEILMANN han an "Regina Maris",
it must be in the end of the 1970's.

The came in 1981 the BERLIN, the company has this ship with an interruption in the Far East as PRINCESS MAHSURI until today.

The better of Deilmann today is the DEUTSCHLAND.

Deilmann is form Lubeck...

The ship you are talking about was build in 1966 at the Flender yards in Germany as the REGINA MARIS for the Lübeck Linie. (5813 grt, length: 118,10m beam: 16,00 m, draft: 5,00 m). The company offered cruises exclusively for German Passengers to the Mediterranean, Nothern Europe and South-America. Her captain at that time was Master Holger Funck, a friend of mine, living in Travemünde today. In November 1976 the ship was sold to Mercator Shipping and performed cruises as the MERCATOR ONE to the Eastern coast of Canada and the Caribbean, but was arrested in May 1977 in Nassau / Bahamas. Area Growth Investment auctioned the vessel and transfered her to Nova Scotia.
In 1979 the ship was bought by Peter Deilmann and renamed FRANKFURT. It was reconstructed in Rendsburg and started cruising as the FRANKFURT 1 under the flag of Singapoore. In 1980 she came back as the REGINA MARIS, exclusively in Germany.
In 1983 she was registerated in Jersey and renamed ALEXANDER before entering drydocks in Bremerhaven where it was reconstructed into a yacht for Latcore Shipping & Trading Company, London which aquired the ship for John Latsis who is using her as a private yacht. Today the company is operating as the Bilinder Marine Corporation S.A..
A lovely little ship !
