Funchal will not come to Brazil this year, due to mechanical problems.
Princess Danae will replace Funchal in Northwestern Brazil and all the Southern cruises scheduled to be operated by this second ship were cancelled.

Nebrasil,
I saw FUNCHAL at Gibraltar on 16th November
at that that time she seemed to be functioning O.K. and had a complement of
passengers on board.
Regards.

Nebrasil,
Further to above, just seen an internet posting that states FUNCHAL is presently laid up at Santa Apolonia pier. No indication though of what problems she has.
Hope this is of help!

Many thanks for your information.
I suspect the "technical problems" with Funchal is the lack of passengers. Strong competition in Brazil, this summer, comes from seven other better ships(Mercury, Splendour of the Seas, Costa Atlantica, Costa Marina, Costa Tropicale, Rhapsody and Princess Danae).

Dear Friends,

I would like to say accordingly to several informations that I have presently the "Funchal" it is laid up at Lisbon, due to the lack of passengers, so, the informations related to technical problems are not correct, speccially because this classic Portuguese cruise ship has been dry docked last year for engines refiting,as well as other additinal works, such as,adding a new stern deck and new cabins.
According to several non-official sources she will be operated by a British or a French cruises Operators and will be positioned this year-2002 cruising on the North of Europe mostly and South America, namely Brazil, alongside her companies fleet-mate "Princess Danae".Rumors say also that thare is also a company interested in chartering her possibility for cruises on Cuba or the Mexican Riviera, however I honestly believe that the first cruise and business options have more credebility than the second news.
Best regards full of successto all of you for this New Year of 2002.

thank you for the Information, Ship's Enthusiast.

I hope, she will come back to Europe.

It is possible, that i book an Cruise on her.

I see her in Lisbon in November 1995 and she is an nice, little, old Ship.

She is an Representative of the great History that Portugal has as seagoing Nation since the Days of Magellan and Vasco da Gama.

Hi Ship´s Enthusiast
I am afraid Funchal won´t come to Brasil anymore.
Strong competition from far superior ships have put this nice ship out of the market. I suppose the battle to attract Brazilian passengers will be even fiercer in the coming years.
