The Switzerland (sister of Princess Danae of Arcalia Shipping-Portugal) ex Daphne, Therisos Express and Port Sydney was laid up at Genoa, last September 27th and offered for sale.
Owned and operated by Swiss company Dreamline (marketed in US by Uniworld),this company suffered the consequences of the troubles with the parent company Swissair.

How old is the SWITZERLAND? She and the DANAE were built in the 50's and rebuilt in the 70's right? Will she be scrapped? There still seems to be some life left in her. I received a Euro Cruises brochure this summer which featured a Baltic cruise on the Switzerland. She seems beautiful inside and out. It seems a shame to lay her up. Hopefully there is a lucrative charter out there somewhere...

The SWITZERLAND indeed is a quite interesting ship. She has a bit more potential in her than her sister PRINCESS DANAE. The ship used to perfom destination-intensive cruises for Europeans at a very attractive price. It had quite a lot of repeaters and it was well sold all the time.
The attacks in the US and the bankrupty of Swissair, which owned a part in Dreamline Cruises, are the result of the lay-up.

The Switzerland originally built as the cargo ship Port Sydney for Port Line, was converted into a cruise ship in 1975 by Carras Cruises as Daphne. Latter operated by Costa Cruises, also as Daphne.
She was refitted and completely refurbished in 1997, by her present owner.
I visited her last year and noticed that maintenance has been weak. Some parts are really well worn.

As the Switzerland, Princess Danae was also originally built as a general cargo ship: Port Melbourne, in the same year (1955).
Also converted by Carras Cruises in 1975,into the cruise ship Danae, she was then operated by Costa Cruises, before being purchased by the present owners Arcalia Shipping.
The ship underwent a refurbishment in 1996, but the finish are poor and maintenance has been unsufficient , as I could see last
January in Rio de Janeiro.

I took this picture in March off the coast of Jamaica. Is this SWITZERLAND or PRINCESS DANAE? She had Dreamline as part of her name.

This ship is absolutely not the PRINCESS DANAE. The PRINCESS DANAE has a different foreward section and another, blue line around the hull. That line was never changed, neither under Nouvelles Frontières-falg. Their logo by the way is red and this ship doesn't feature any red logo !
This one is the SWITZERLAND under Dreamline Cruises management.

Patrick is right, check the pictures of the Princess Danae:

Here you can clearly see the blue line

And here you can see the Nouvelles Frontieres red logo on the funnel.

Joe, you posted the same picture of the Switzerland about a year ago, and we came up with the conclusion that she is the Switzerland.

Why do we have to discuss about her identity again?

Just wondering...
