For a 1950's era experience the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston, Ontario, Canada operates the retired Canadian Coastguard buoy tender/icebreaker, Alexander Henry as a bed and breakfast and tourable artifact from May 24th to After Labour Day each year. I haven't been to that maritime museum yet but it does sound interesting. I have been to the Manitowoc Maritime Museum, the Door County Maritime Museum, and I've also toured the Milwaukee Clipper twice. Both of the museums are very nice and do have some imformation on Great Lakes passenger ships. In Manistee, Michigan the carferry City of Milwaukee recently began opereating a Bed & Breakfast with the ships passenger accomodations. While nothing like the passenger acoomodations of the passenger liners, the City of Milwuakee does have plenty of nice wood paneling and the ship has not been altered since it was built in 1931. Eventually they want to fully restore the City of Milwaukee and have her touring the Great Lakes under her own power as a living museum.
