Has anyone heard anything of the fate of the Dolphin IV. I myself have read several conflicting reports about her. One had her still laid up in Freeport awaiting a buyer while another had her sold for scrap and off to India or Pakastan. Does anyone know which report is true?

The ship was sold for scrapping in Pakistan.

I too will miss the old gal. I made a very enjoyable three night trip aboard her from April 3,1987 to April 6th. The food was excellent along with the dining room service. Also as I type these words I look up and see my "S.S. DOLPHIN first place" trophy awarded for the dubious distinction of having the most "tourist looking legs" of any one fool enough to enter the contest.

It's sad to see them go but everything must come to a end. Now only the memories remain.

The DOLPHIN IV in better days, or in this case the AMELIA DE MELLO, arriving in Lisbon at the end of her regular round voyages to Angola, at the service of the Sociedade Geral de Comercio, Industria e Transportes. She sailed under the Portuguese flag from 1966 to 1972.

Hey Paulo, thanks for posting the photo of the DOLPHIN in her earlier days. Other than the stack and the bridge there was very little that harkend back to those times.

Another wonderful gal leaves us. She was my first cruise in May '81.
I got my first taste of
chocolate mousse and I did'nt have room for one
more bite and the table
steward tried to feed me
that last bite.
Aaaaah, those were the days when a cruise ship, was a cruise ship. I will
miss you little DOLPHIN.
Our last cruise on it was
in '97. Adieu fair lady.

So what is the full report on the ship? i.e. when was she sold?,when did she leave?,has she already been brokenup for scrap?

I am sorry that the Dolphin IV is going to be scrapped. It was operated by Dolphin Cruises when we went on it. The food and service were very good.

The Food and dining room service was provided by Apollo Shipchandlers, Miami, who are now caterer onboard CELEBRITY and RENAISSANCE (albeit only til the end of the year)

The Dolphin IV IS NOT scrapped yet, not even sold for scrap. However, she is for sale to be used as an accommodation ship or for scrap.

I guess that she will be scrapped soon, maybe th scrappers are reluctant since the last three laid up ships that left the Bahamas (Sea, Sun and Belofin 1(ex-Britanis)) never made it to the scrapyards. Those ships had pride, they could not allow the humiliation of being broken to pieces.

What was the scrap value of those ships?
How much were they insured for when they sunk ?
